There will be a Chevy on pole for this weekend’s Chevrolet Sportscar Classic in Detroit, with Action Express Racing’s Christian Fittipaldi leading today’s qualifying session in No. 5 Corvette Daytona Prototype, Motorsport reports.
Fittipaldi lapped the 13-turn, 2.3-mile Belle Isle street circuit in 1:23.815, just 0.48 seconds clear of runner up Marc Goosens in the VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP. Wayne Taylor Racing’s Ricky Taylor, who won the race at the circuit last year, was third fastest.
Chevys dominated the session, with the second AXR car of Dane Cameron and Eric Curran taking the fourth qualifying position. Similar to today’s practice session, the Michael Shank Racing Honda Ligier JS P2 of Katherine Legge was fifth fastest, while the Mazda Prototypes of Tristan Nunez and Tom Long were sixth and seventh.
