Cadillac CT6 Deliveries Continue To Grow, Reach 697 Deliveries In May 2016

The all-new 2016 Cadillac CT6 full-size luxury sedan accounted for 697 deliveries in the United States in May 2016 — its second full month on the market. On a global level, CT6 sales totaled 1,119 units in May.

The figures compare to 285 U.S. deliveries and 561 global deliveries in April, the first full month of CT6 availability in the U.S.

The CT6 is the first Cadillac model to compete in the full-size luxury flagship sedan space against such segment stalwarts as the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8/S8, and Lexus LS.

  1. The CT6 will never be Cadillac’s volume leader but the initial response is encouraging. I expect June sales to exceed 1200 units as production ramp up continues.
    As the current halo vehicle Cadillac would be elated to see monthly volume get over 2000 units per month.

    1. It might exceed that 2,000 unit mark when the XTS is sunset in a couple of years. Sales volume should also increase as awareness of the model increases, which typically takes place over time. Overall, I see a bright future for this model not only in terms of sales but also in terms of brand and model image, recognition, etc.

    2. It was never intended to be the volume leader.

      It is just the car the last manager planned as a flagship and it was nearly done by the time the new management decided it was not good enough for a flagship and are working on their own.

      The CT6 is a good car and will do not harm and will only enhance what Cadillac has started. But it is not the car the people there planned or built so I expect that we will see much more in a CT8 and I would not be surprised if the CTS and CT6 are merged at some point.

      1. Agreed. It’s almost necessary to merge the CT6/CTS to enable a “true” flagship to come in and carve out its own position.

        The merged car can be slightly smaller than the CT6 while also being slightly larger than the current CTS,

        Ideally, the positioning of the CT6 should not have been where it is now — but rather a few notches higher along the lines of a real S-Class rival. But GM’s product planning seems to almost always miss in the segmentation department until a second or third generation of a vehicle becomes available. Prime examples:

        First and second gen CTS (straddle compact and midsize luxury classes)
        First-gen ATS (made to be a true compact luxury car, but ended up being smaller than key rivals since the segment “moved” during its development)
        First and second gen Equinox and first-gen Terrain
        First-gen Lambda CUVs

  2. This is great news and if this keeps up it should be a testitmate that luxo car buyers still want a large sedan and do not care about corny ugly looking crossovers.

  3. While it’s good to see customers buying the CT6, these numbers aren’t all that impressive! Granted this is Cadillac’s first true flagship sedan with a somewhat loftier price tag and limited availability, I suppose none of us should expect these to fly off the lots. Besides, most of the current big luxury sedans are selling that well anyways. So I guess these initial CT6 sales numbers aren’t so bad after all. Still, it would be nice to see stronger numbers; perhaps at least 1200-2000 sales per month to show the buying public is genuinely interested in the CT6!

    1. These initial figures will be lower than what we will see in the next 3-6 months since a significant amount of initial customer orders haven’t been filled yet. That means that customers are still waiting for theirs to arrive, and these can’t be marked as delivered (a sale on the numbers charts) until they arrive and are handed over to customers.

      Outside of that, non-order units (regular inventory) of the CT6 is still low in most markets, which limits sales potential.

    2. J…this is only month 2 on the market. I do not think production is ramped up enough to push out 2000 units a month yet.

    1. And no Cadillac sold currently is “fat, stubby, and ugly”. But I’m sure you will disagree as we have gone over and over and over again in the past.

  5. First of all when a new vehicle starts production it is usually a slow ramp up for the factory . They don’t just hit the button and start building 45-60 cars per hour . The whole facility is nothing but a fine tuned machine and it will take time to get everything adjusted just right . And every car built is sold to dealers and customers , so it will take time to build up an inventory .
    The more cars getting to dealerships will propel sales numbers ,the people that will buy directly from the lot and not order one which I believe is how most cars are sold .
    So the numbers may seem small now but give it time before you start thinking this car is a bust . A big car coming from Cadillac is what #1 is what they are known for and #2 a car with the latest technology and build quality .

  6. the CT6 just looks boring…the front and rear looks tall and fat…the CT6 doesn’t look like a large car…sorry but all I see is a giant ATS on steroids and the BMW 7 looks much more appealing…..till Caddy ditches its old Art & Science…Cadillac will all always look fat and boring.

    1. Yeah because a BMW 7 doesn’t look anything like a 3 Or 5 (sarcasm). At least Cadillacs DRL have some variation between the models but BMW uses pretty much the same headlights and front end on all of its cars. Now THAT’S boring.

  7. CUVs are more of young buyers
    and sedans are more of older buyers
    let’s say by 2025 Cadillacs Art & Science will be gone and moved on with new, groundbreaking Revolutionary designs with sleek and appealing CUVs that are not lame.

    And Cadillac will be cooler than it is now

      Incorrect and a huge generalization, too. The age demographic actually skews higher for crossovers, mostly due to the fact that crossovers are mostly purchased for families (higher age demo) while sedans and coupes are purchased for personal use more often by singles or smaller families (lower age demo).

      We all know you’re not a fan of the current Art & Science styling. Plenty of others are. What else is new?

  8. When will Cadillac begin production of the plug-in hybrid version of the CT6 that uses the RWD Voltec system and the 18 kWh battery pack behind the rear seats? I see that if this hybrid system is effective and successful, GM can add this version to all large RWD vehicles, including sportscars.

  9. Quality and ergonomics is the real issue. Coming from a 750L to a Platinum 2016 Escalade, there is no comparison. If they make a BMW X7 I’m outta here Caddy! In comparison, the seats suck, the electronics are poor, A/C not up to luxury standards, I could go on after using it for 6 months. The designers should be forced to drive cars before finally releasing for production.

      1. Didn’t drive it for more than a few minutes. Wanted to switch to an “American” brand. Platinum was the only way I could get the lighter tan inside with matching dash, etc. very few choices in the other levels. Didn’t realize it was not up to the $100K price. When I did a 750iL for $100K I felt I was getting what I was paying for.
