Actually, This Is A 1990 Mazda Miata With A GM V6 Under The Hood6
We’re not sure what drives people to build franken-cars like this, but hey, to each their own. This one-off 1990 Mazda Miata, for example, features the face of a BMW Z3 and the heart of a GM V6 engine. Yes, the body fitment is downright terrible. The hood, fenders, and doors don’t line up at all, but hey, at least it’s got a sharp looking paint job.
What’s impressive is the work done to the GM V6 engine. The 3.1-liter has been bored, stroked, balanced, and blue printed. It’s also got an Eagle cam, an Edelbrock intake, Holley carb, and is sitting at 7,000 miles. The worked engine is matted to a rebuilt 5-speed transmission out of a Camaro, which is linked to a custom shifter, and the 4.10 Positraction rear end is from a Mazda RX-7. Other features include custom Headman Headers, functional A/C, mechanical oil pressure and vacuum gauges, a stainless steel roll bar, and a Sony head unit.
We’re sure that there is a good amount of time in this build and that someone out there thinks it’s cool, but it’s also far too deep into the “acquired taste” category for us. The $16,500 price tag makes it even less appealing. What say you? Are we being to critical of this custom car, or is it something that should have never been built?

Should have just put a Grand National motor in it and been done.

To each his own. I’d bet money that 80% of the BMW owners out there would not know it’s DNA does not belong to BMW and would probably buy it.
I applaud the skill it took to put this together. Like art, the result is in the eye of the beholder, and I find no fault in the “artist’s” self fulfillment, but I’ll keep my money in my pocket.
