With rival 3/4-ton and full-ton pickups encroaching on 1,000 lb-ft of torque straight from the factory, the current GMC Sierra HD’s 765 lb-ft is beginning to seem paltry. Never mind that it has constantly excelled in real world testing versus the likes of Ford and Ram, because sometimes it is just a numbers game. And sometimes the players have to come up with bigger numbers.
Enter the 2017 GMC Sierra HD. Seen here in Denali form, its fully functional hood scoop hints at a titanic powerplant that is sure to build on the current 397 hp and 765 lb-ft currently offered. Likely from cooling improvements to the existing 6.6L Duramax V8 diesel engine. With that said, GMC is currently keeping all information under lock and key — we have no leads as to what the power figures will be, or if it’s even the same Duramax engine, let alone an all-new one. Only the picture of this 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali was released. Big Red isn’t about to show its hand in this ever-ongoing poker game just yet. So that leaves us with nothing but our wandering imaginations to think of what’s hiding behind that massive mail slot of a hood scoop. And our imaginations are downright reckless.

No facelift a la 1500? In my opinion, the new grill and LEDs are amazing.
Was wondering the same thing, normally the HD facelift follows a year later then the 1500’s I guess not the case here. Maybe there trying differentiate the two a bit more
I think it looks good. Glad it does NOT have the ‘transformer eye’ headlights, off centered gmc logo in the grill, overly plasticy grill, and odd child toy indentation above the grill/in the hood like the 2016 1500.
I was hoping the same grill updates. The NBS should have been released with the new grills in the first place. Being this is only a hood update maybe the grill is still in the works.
Hopefully they do the same LED and grill updates on the HDs. But, I doubt they will.
Traded my 2014 Sierra for a 2016 as I wanted the 6.2 with the 8 speed – AMAZING!!! With that said, the thing that drew me to the 2016 was the front end – way better looking than my 2014. I am really hoping the SDs get this treatment when they are officially released.
love the look, I hope the output will be around 450hp and 850lb-ft torque with an Allison trans and a Dana Spicer rear, a Z71 off-road sport package with a bull bar and light bar, Fox Suspension, optional 4″ performance exhaust, Brembo brakes, Goodyear Wrangler tires, bead lock wheels, a comfortable and sporty/rugged interior package and a premium stereo system. Can we say Raptor/Rebel/Power wagon fighter!!!!
No need for 4″ exhaust since it HAS a 5″ exhaust…….
I’m happy with the looks and performance of my 2016 HD. What I can’t stand is the low hanging DEF tank and awkward fill location. Making any significant change before addressing the Achilles heel DEF tank would be a big letdown for me.
Anyone know the new colors for the 2017 2500 Denali ??? Desperate:)
They will have the same colors as the 2017 Denali 1500s which you could check on the GMC website.
I wish GM would get off their ass and stop spoon feeding us information and give the public the engine specs for the 2017 Duramax.
Ford Torq spec ( wow ) = 925 @ 1800 rpm (6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel)
an 440 HP
Ford gm and dodge need to stop playing around, pull out all the stops and just go back with the cars and names that they used to have and give people what the really want in cars and trucks. Chevy should have the corvette Camaro Vega Malibu impala k-series blazer, tahoe,s10, c/k 1500, k2500, k3500, k4500 with the 2500 series and up being duramax diesels pushing out 450hp 1000tq with Allison transmissions and the works. Ford needs to have the Mustang, a maverick (focus replacement), the Fairlane (fusion replacement) a bronco, explorer, and f-series pickup trucks which would include an f100 ranger. Dodge needs to do the same with the challenger charger barracuda Durango ramcharger and ram trucks including a d100 durango. With the way technology is today all three manufacturers could drop their entire v6 lineup and go with turbo 4cylinder base engines and use small displacement twin turbo v8 engines with cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing direct injection or anything to produce maximu. Horsepower and 30mpg averages since that seems to be the magic number. Both ford and gm have 10 speed automatics so there is no reason that 30mpg for a high performance v8 car is out of the question and with selectable drive modes direct injection vvt, cylinder deactivation and all of that stuff plus lighter chassis, more aerodynamic bodies and everything else there’s no way this shouldn’t work. Even with the trucks, we have all kinds of tech to make even high power diesels efficient. If all three companies went down to those models of cars, plus ford would still have Lincoln dodge would still have Chrysler and gm would still have gmc Buick and caddy. The American auto industry would be better.
