If the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze sedan isn’t enough cargo space, Chevy wants to remedy that with the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback.
The brand has announced the 2017 Cruze hatchback will arrive at dealers this fall, and will start at $22,190. The Cruze hatch will not be offered in every Cruze sedan trim, but will arrive in LT or Premier trimmings. The RS package will also be optional.
The hatchback won’t set you back either. A comparable 2016 Cruze LT sedan rings in at $21,995, meaning for less than $200 more, the hatchback could be yours.
The 2017 Cruze hatchback shares the same 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the sedan, but features 47.2 cubic-feet of storage.

Anyone heard if Chevrolet is doing a 2 door version of the new Cruze?
Where will this be assembled? I know the expectation was Lordstown, but I heard rumblings that some might also be built in Mexico.
No 2 doors at this point.
I have not heard where but Lordstown is running pretty full so I suspect some from Mexico and could be other markets if demand is such. The cars no matter where they are built will all be to the same assembly line criteria and to the same quality.
Right now Chevy needs all the people on the web that cried for this car to really buy one.
Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. A hatch is a lower volume model that costs more to build. Thats why they are not offered in the base trim. And building in Mexico will allow them to sell it for just $200 more than the compabaly equipped LT sedan version
Fun
Still a bit disappointed with no independent rear suspension. It would be nice if it handled as sporty as a Mazda3 for instance.
I would not worry too much The Cobalt SS drove circles around the 3.
But keep in mind this is not a performance models so it will not be tuned. It will drive like the sedan and the rear axles is not the issue they just tuned it for ride.
Sadly, if I was to buy a hatchback in this segment, I would go for the 2017 Civic Hatchback or the 2017 Subaru Impreza wagon. I think GM needs to take entry level cars a bit more seriously to attract younger buyers who are excited by sportiness.
Small typo.. the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback has a cargo capacity of 47.2 cubic feet with the rear passenger seats folded down as with them up, it’s 18.5 cubic feet which is still impressive especially compared with the 2016 Buick Encore CUV that has a cargo capacity of 19.0 cubic feet.
Yes it will have lots of room with the seat down but not much with the seat up.
“not much with the seat up”? 18.5 cu feet is just .2 less than the Chevy Trax, and 5.5 cu ft MORE than the trunk space in a Buick Lacrosse
Thanks Bob!
Bob the trouble here is that the car may measure up number wise but with the seat up there is little horizontal space and the height is hampered by the slope of the rear hatch.
This is why the Wagon may have been a better choice as it has more usable room. The hatch is more stylish but not as usable.
As for the Trax it is not much with the seat up either. Both will do well with the seat down but not much with it up.
As for the Lacrosse no one ever claimed it to be a good trunk. It is as bad as a Camaro trunk. But then to be fair neither are made with a hatch to haul more cargo.
Shoulda done a higher end version and saved the Verano …
I’m upset with my Cruze LtZ it had on the sticker 38 MPG have yet to get that and most of my driving is highway, dealerships keep giving “Chevy speak” answers instead of checking to see if it’s computer related which is something that is an issue with Cruze, as there is other quirky things going on with my cruze…I guess they are waiting for the 36,000 miles to go by before admitting there’s an issue and it’s on me!
This is a real looker. It just may replace my current car some day.
One has to wonder why it’s taken so long for Chevrolet engineers to develop a wagon/hatchback version of the Cruze as it reminds me of the Motor Trend YouTube video where they tested a Cadillac CTS-V Wagon against a Mercedes E63 AMG Wagon and Motor Trend said Cadillac told them it would only take them to sell 39 Cadillac CTS Wagons to recoup all of the engineering and tooling cost for the wagon; one has to think while engineering and tooling cost has probably gone up, Chevrolet will sell more than 447 CTS Wagons over a 2-year period especially in Europe where wagons and hatchbacks are more popular than the US.
