2017 Cadillac ATS Receives Restructured Trim Levels, Drops 2.5L Four Cylinder

Cadillac has made the 2017 Cadillac ATS sedan and coupes’ changes official. The brand has announced a slew of changes and updates to the ATS, the biggest being an all-new trim level hierarchy.

Along with the new trims, Cadillac has waved goodbye to the 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated, four-cylinder engine, and replaced the outgoing base model with the 2017 ATS Turbo. The 2.0-liter LTG turbo-four makes the ATS the most powerful turbocharged sedan in its class.

Following the 2017 Cadillac CTS, the ATS trims also now fall in line with the 2016 Cadillac CT6 and 2017 Cadillac XT5. The ATS arrives in ATS, Luxury, Premium Luxury and Premium Performance; the ATS-V series continues on unchanged from 2017. Additional equipment helps boost the value per dollar in the ATS, including new standard technologies like the myCadillac Mobile App, Teen Driver and Cadillac Collection.

Two new, unnamed colors join the 2017 ATS’ palette for the model year, and a new wheel design to keep things fresh. Additionally, a Carbon Black sport package will be offered for the 2017 model year.

  1. Dropping the base 2.5NA engine is long overdue.
I was hoping they would replace it with a version of the 1.6T but this move improves their value position in the segment which will help.

    1. The worst thing about the 2.5L four cylinder was the wacky placement of the single exhaust tip. It wasn’t off to one side, it wasn’t directly in the middle (like a Mini Cooper), but it was just arbitrarily dropped 1/3rd of the way across the back bumper. They should have at least just given a hidden downturn exhaust pipe with no exposed tip.

  2. I thought they’re doing something with the instrument gauge?

    1. Agreed. The current gauge cluster needs to change! At least offer an upscale cluster as an option!

  3. Woo hoooo they dropped the 2.5 now add the 3.0. I suspect the other major changes like the rear seat room and the too small trunk will be addressed in the next model update.

  4. Waiting impatiently to order my 2017 ATS Premium Luxury 3.6 AWD and they are changing the instrument cluster from what i have read.

  5. Good riddance, if Chrysler had dropped its 2.4L on the 200, sales would have improved in my opinion.

These base engines belong on non-premium cars.
