It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the 2017 Buick LaCrosse finally has a configurator. The official Buick website has fired the configurator up ahead of its late summer introduction, and we had some fun optioning out our own 2017 LaCrosse.
The 2017 Buick LaCrosse begins at base trim, arriving with 18-inch wheels, the 3.6-liter LGX V6 engine, an eight-inch touchscreen unit, HID headlamps and one of the first applications of GM’s Electronic Precision Shift. The starting price here is a reasonable $32,990 plus other fees and taxes.
Moving right along, we selected the top of the line, LaCrosse Premium trim. $41,990 gets you quite a few features including a heated steering wheel, four-way lumbar front seats with massage function, heads-up display, a suite of safety features and even a set of active lower grille shutters for optimized aerodynamics.
Check the box for all-wheel drive and the price climbs $3,000 on the Premium trim to $44,990. We are a tad shocked to see AWD is only offered on the Premium trim. That means approaching $50,000 to gain power to all four wheels.
Also, if you were planning to be expressive with your color choice, we’re sorry to let you down. The only hues not offered at an extra charge are Black Onyx and Summit White. Every other color choice costs at least $395 more, creeping up to $995 extra for White Frost Tricoat.

Totely agree that Buick should of at least offerd AWD on one other trim level, even the mid level trim would of been nice..If I get this vehicle I will no doubt get AWD.
As I follow the comments RE the new La Crosse I’ve thought of how this car is referred to as full sized. Not too many years ago this platform would be called mid sized – at best! The Oldsmobile Cutlass was a mid sized car. The Pontiac Le Mans was a mid sized car. The Chevy Malibu as a mid size car. The La Crosse is more mid sized than full sized. I know that most if not all of the downsizing revolves around trimming weight to meet fuel efficiency guidelines.
While I wait to see the new La Crosse at the dealer I can’t help but think that it will not have much more trunk space than my ’11 version. I can fit my golf clubs in the trunk without removing longer clubs or dropping the rear seats.
As i mentioned in another post I’m disappointed with the new offering and its lack of features. At this point I’m strongly leaning toward a Ford Edge or Infinity QX50 – more features and more power for equal or less than the new La Crosse. I’ve owned more than a few Buicks in the past 20 years – “95 Roadmaster, ’02 Rendezvous, ’06 Lucerne, ’08 Enclave and ’11 La Crosse. But I think that my Buick days are over.
Totally agree with you on this one……just did a build on one and for a new redesign , and top Buick car, total let down.
This downsizing of cars has improved the used market prices of older GM cars. I for one have purchased 3 used GM cars to last me as long as possible until the cars get bigger again.
I have written to GM on a number of occasions and they keep referring me to the Impala which is considered a full size but really it barely passes the line. I have rented it to try it and as far as I am concerned it doesn’t even come close to full filling my expectations in terms of comfort and size.
I was hoping the 2017 Lacrosse would be the car I am waiting for but here I am disappointed again.
The race to the lightest smallest sports car they can force us to buy is mind baffling for me. Doesn’t anyone at GM realize that there is a full-size family car market that isn’t being satisfied today?
GM marketing again. If GM had even a decent marketing department they would miles ahead in sale.
I’m waiting for Mary Barra to realize she’s a calmer gentler Steve Jobs. Which is priceless in marketing.
Lacrosse ESSENCE GROUP TRIM w/SOUND & NAV Package!
You shouldn’t be shocked to see AWD in the Premium trim only, as it was in the order guide this way, but I agree that it should be offered in The Essence trim (along with head up display). I absolutely hate that I will have to get the Premium just for the head up display. I can’t believe that BOSE isn’t standard on the Premium model. Typical GM packaging… I want BOSE, but not nav. Also want the sunroof, but the useless rear sunshade is bundled with it.
Also, of some concern: The “brandy” interior trim is looking very tan in the new pictures, and not at all like the reddish terra cotta like hue I fell in love with from the initial pictures, and the seatbelts are a generic black instead of color coordinated to the seats.
I’d be happy if it were rear wheel drive.
There are plenty of RWD or RWD-biased cars out there, such as Cadillac sedans, and big FCA sedans as well.
LaCrosse, roughly speaking, is a more luxurious Impala, and had always been this way, and based on the same platform as Impala (just the corresponding Impala comes a bit later than LaCrosse). And so, like Impala, LaCrosse is FWD (or, as an option beyond Impala, FWD-biased AWD).
Nice package for Buick. It’s about time
While a small number may be upset with the lack of AWD in less the top line it is where it sells best and makes the most profit.
GM will install the AWD package but it is the options that make the money. They keep the price down on the AWD but they make it up on the option packages.
If they put AWD in the lesser model it would make for a very plain car with a higher than you want to pay price.
GM also did this with the Diesel Cruze as if they had put that engine in the lesser model even less would have bought it as the engine is not cheap and the car would show so little value for what you get. The options made it a better value based on what you paid.
I know there is always the few that say they will buy but you are not enough in number to make profits worth while,
Sorry like many things Mob Rules.
I can see myself owning this car since this car offers an exceptional value for what it represents.
Not a impulse buyer and been waiting on this Model to come out and actually see it before do anything. Looking thru the options and was surprised on a few things. Not even power mirrors (manual in and out). GM has always been a few years behind in putting the tech and safety in there autos. When they do finally add something they market it like the best thing since dirt. So i shall see, if the price options out more than i think, ill be going with my other choice…AUDI. Have a 2010 Enclave and i thought they would do something with that, esp. in there gas milage. Behind on that also.
maybe they will listen to the people before they do the first builds and make some changes, don’t think so, but can hope.
Manual mirrors? Not sure if you mean in some other way but these are power mirrors on this car. I don’t think GM makes a car with non power mirrors outside of a some limited trucks.
Most power items like Mirror are cheaper to put on than Manual cable operated same for windows and even tilt wheel. as that is why they are standard anymore.
Obviously, he meant manual FOLDING mirrors – it’s strange that you, as a cur guy, didn’t catch what he meant.
Enclave has power FOLDING mirrors, all euro sedans now do, and new 3rd gen LaCrosse still doesn’t – that’s what he meant.
There will not be a CD player offered with the 2017 LaCrosse. $1145 for a Bose Premium Sound System, and no CD player? Yes, I understand CD’s are an outdated form of media, but there still are some of us that have quite a lot of them, and do enjoy the sound quality of discs vs. that of downloads.
Well, maybe USB CD player will work there, though it’s an annoyance anyway, I agree.
Especially, considering the fact that most LaCrosse buyers are like 40+ people, who may be generally more conservative with tech and indeed may have a bunch of CDs to listen from previous times.
While AWD seems to dominate the postings I more curious why rain sensitive wipers and power folding side mirrors are not available. I may have missed it but did’t notice a memory setting for passenger front seat.
Buick would like to think they’ve made a great new car and they have come along way but there are cars that offer more for less.
I’m a bit disappointed in the ’17 LaCrosse!
It seems there is no power folding side mirrors and no memory setting for the passenger’s front seat (memory is only available for the driver’s seat). And it seems there are no rain sensing wipers available as well. On the flagship sedan. What a pity.
It looks GM is artificially depriving this new 3rd gen LaCrosse of some features – I guess, in their view, to not to create internal competition with Cadillac. And it’s absolutely no good. KIA Optima, being one size class smaller, will soon be more feature rich than LaCrosse, if not already. That’s good for KIA, and not so for GM.
I was waiting on this car to see how it panned out, due to big Lacrosse design change and all. After reading and going over the build of this vehicle , dam i am very disappointed. What a waste to whoever did the trims. Seems like from the other comments i been reading, a lot of pissed people. Buick, thought you was better. Did a few comparisons yesterday, did the Nissan Platinum, Cadilac, even the hyandi.
sad part, by the time you take the trim, try to get what you want, your pushing 50K and still not in line with some of the competors lines. Ill pass on this one. Looking at the caddy now and the Audi…..someone needs fired at Buick
Looks A1
Size midsize
Therefore I pass.
I want a full size large Buick.
I have never been in the market of small cars but it seems all manufacturers are trying to force us to buy the smallest car they can pawn on us or an SUV/CUV.
I want to drive a fullsize car not a truck something that isnt on the market these days. Hell I may decide to make my own car
Buick LaCrosse Chief Engineer, Jeff Yanssens, was on Autoline After Hours #338 (on Youtube) and is worth watching as Yanssens discussed his history of over 30 years at General Motors. Yanssens also discussed the need to rent a CRAY supercomputer to do the CAE analysis for the design of the LaCrosse to discover how to reduced NVH without increasing overall weight or sacrificing safety which meant using more expensive materials which were lighter and why he gone ahead with a single engine design (as reason why there’s no 250-275 horsepower LTG 2.0L turbo 4 cyl as a base engine). The 2017 Buick LaCrosse looks great and should give other mid-luxury cars some real competition.
The engine is fine for me personally, and the fact i waited on this car to come out before i decided on purchasing something. I am disappointed as to the way the car is optioned out. I have been over the configuration of this car several times to make sure i didn’t miss something. The awd is only available in the high end and same as the safety tech. This Buick Brand of the high auto, whoever decided to option it this way should be fired. Not even power folding mirrors.
Safety should be important, and to pay top dollar to get the adaptive cruise and the other safety features don’t make sense. In my opinion, when people look at the way the options was done and has been expressed concern on here, i am passing on this car. Put it this way, take Nissan for example, i wouldn’t buy one, but look at there options, one can get the safety tech on a lot of there models and no gouging like on this one. Buick is thinking this is the best thing since dirt. They should have researched the competitors autos. Am disappointed, but will look elsewhere. I hope GM Authority does a review on this and hope Buick reads it.
