2017 Buick Encore Launches In China

The 2017 Buick Encore will be heading stateside this fall, but China gets first dibs on the hot crossover. The 2017 Encore officially launched in China on June 18 with new looks and features abound.

Through five trims, the 2017 Buick Encore starts at RMB 139,900 ($21,246 USD) and climbs to RMB 189,900 ($28,840 USD) for a fully loaded variant.

Powering the 2017 Encore is a familiar 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which may be paired with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Unlike the U.S., though, is the option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

To celebrate the launch of the 2017 Encore, Buick will bring the crossover to the 2016 “Route Awakening” Buick China Culture Tour. The event, which sees Buick partner with National Geographic, to showcase China’s rich history and ancient civilizations.

  1. The 2017 Buick Encore in China should do very well as US Sales for the 2016 Buick Encore was 6,522 units in May while it’s Chevy Trax twin sold 5,102 units over the same period; add to the fact that the base price of China’s 2017 Buick Encore has a base price that’s almost $3K less than in the US 2016 Buick Encore base model.

  2. I’m hoping the 2018 Encore gets a tiny stretch. At the moment there are 15 inches that separate the Encore from the Envision. My problem is (as an Encore owner) the Encore itself could use a few of those inches. Set the back seat two inches further back and add five more inches to the hatch. Maybe an inch wider (for a second front armrest) and —

    — I think GM wouldn’t be able to make them fast enough. Bonus points if they can keep the weight the same and mildly increase mileage — as they have with updates of other cars.
