The stigma of small cars being unsafe to drive is an old, tired one. More mass, and bigger cars, doesn’t necessarily mean safer in the modern age of motoring.
That goes for the 2016 Chevrolet Spark, too, which received a “good” rating in the side-impact test from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.
The video above shows a dummy vehicle plowing into the 2016 Spark. Thanks to side airbags, the occupants would have a pretty decent shot at walking away relatively unharmed, minus the typical whiplash.
Have a look at the crash test for yourself up above.

I found this new Spark redesign to be dulled down. The car is no longer visually distinctive but just sorta there. Like a piece of toast. Which makes it hard to recommend to others. But —
— I’ve been surprised to learn the press considers the remainder of the car vastly improved. Consumer Reports said the ride… get this… was better than the Honda Fit. (Bias my iass.)
Small cars may perform well against their own forces, but matched against a larger vehicle, they almost always lose the battle. The IIHS has demonstrated this time and time again.
