General Motors gave the Camaro team one hell of a gift: the first application of the the GM-Ford, co-developed ten-speed automatic transmission. When we spoke with 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 engineer, Aaron Link, he told us the Camaro team has earned it through how far the vehicle has come from an engineering standpoint. The team is more than enthusiastic to be introducing new technology with the Camaro.
Above, Chevrolet has provided a look into how the new ten-speed automatic will be a game changer for not only the 2017 Camaro ZL1, but also for how consumers think about an automatic. It shifts quicker than a Porsche PDK system, and the gears continuously keep power at the driver’s fingertips.
Have a look at what Link has to say about the transmission above, and check out the rigorous testing the gearbox goes through to ensure it’s a world beater.

That is one beast of a transmission. It sounds fantastic. I love that GM is putting emphasis in the transmissions. Before, frame and engine would come first then way later the transmission. Now it is an all new package for new models.
It shifts quicker than a PDK. but does it shifter quicker than a 8L90?
While Chevrolet’s Camaro will be the first General Motors vehicle to get the new 10-speed automatic transmission, you’ve got to think Chevy’s Corvette and just about every rear-wheel drive Cadillac car (ATS, CTS, CT6) will be getting the 10-speed by mid-2017 at the latest.
the output flange is pure ZF…….who built it?
