Budget 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Hits The Dragstrip: Video

If you don’t remember Hot Rod’s budget V8 build, have a look at it here, but we’ll recap it briefly. The premise of the build was to build cheap V8 power, and a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro rolling chassis fit the build for the boys at Hot Rod Garage. Under $10,000 altogether cheap.

After slapping in a new V8 engine and a turbocharger in, producing 530 hp, the 1979 Camaro, aptly named “Bonemaro”, finds itself at the drag strip for a few passes.

However, before taking the budget beast to the track, subframe connectors, drag shocks, slapper bars, and a mini-spool are detailed and installed.

But, we’re here to see how this frankenstein of a Camaro actually runs. And it does run. The guys manage a few passes around the 12-second mark in the quarter-mile at around 123 mph. Not too shabby, but we know it won’t stop there for Bonemaro.
