2JZ-Swapped, First-Generation Chevrolet Camaro Is Sure To Upset Some: Video

In this world, a 2JZ-swapped C3 Corvette exists. The world likely wasn’t prepared for that. Is the world ready for a 2JZ-swapped Chevrolet Camaro? Also likely a no.

Yet, here it is. The 2JZ is the glory engine from the Toyota Supra, and later the Lexus IS. Or, if you’re feeling JDM, the Toyota Altezza. In this application, it has been swapped into a first-generation Chevrolet Camaro, and tuned for up to 1,000 hp. V8, what?

It’s definitely interesting to hear the sweet sounds of an inline-six from a Chevrolet Camaro, but we know this swap isn’t going to please the Camaro enthusiasts at large.

As they say, winning is winning. No matter if it’s a small-block V8, or a Japanese inline-six.

  1. There are only three factors where I can accept this blasphemy. 1, the car was originally a 6 cylinder. 2, he had the Jap 6 banger available for no to low $$$$, and 3, the car was junk to begin with and was restored and saved from the crusher. Otherwise, that car needs an LSX swap with TT’s for 1,000+HP. Just as I don’t condone Toyota in NASCAR and mourn the loss of Chrysler, I don’t condone any foreign engine in a classic AMERICAN muscle car. JMHO….

  2. Disturbing, but better than cramming a prius drivetrain under it.

  3. Tons of LS swaps out there, it’s not a big deal. I think it’s pretty awesome.

  5. Doesn’the bother me at all. My only gripe is it’s a swap done for shock value Vs actual performance enhancement. I’ve owned and raced a tuned JZ powered car, and sorry, not even in the same league as a modern LSX engine, or any other newer American v8 for that matter. It’s heavier, takes up more space, and is at a power curve disadvantage.

That said, carry on – at least it’s different.

  6. My the chevy guys sure get offended when the shoe is on the other foot . Cant wait till tesla actually makes a car intended for racing, it will be electric swaps into chevys on a regular basis.
