General Motors has done an incredible job at keeping its vehicles fresh the past few model years. Significant updates, changes and redesigns have kept bread and butter products from going stale, save for a few key vehicles. Yes, we’re looking at you, Lambda-based crossovers.
However, next on the coming to a dealership near you list, is the 2018 GMC Terrain, which has been spied by Automotive News wearing a fairly dashing profile. Gone is the upright, boxy look from the current crossover, instead replaced by a lower, leaner and sleeker looking one.
The 2018 Terrain seems to be following the latest trend of a raked windshield and lower roofline for a more aesthetically appealing appearance. And we’re okay with that, because the current GMC Terrain isn’t the most handsome thing on the block.
This is arguably one of the better looks at either the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox of 2018 GMC Terrain since we do finally see how both will likely wear the D2XX platform as a crossover. Expect both crossovers in 2017 to go on sale as a 2018 model.

Hope they won’t share the same interior design like the current gen since the current gen do share the same interior design as the Equinox. But I have a feeling that they still going to share the same interior design as its Chevrolet counterpart.
As for styling on the inside I do not expect major changes but there will be more than they have now.
Based on other GMC and Chevy shared models I am seeing different colors and trim. In the Colorado and Canyon the GMC offers lighter brown colors and some trims with fake wood and or carbon fiber. Chevy offers mostly grey and jet black with only one blue cloth insert. The trim is mostly just gray plastic.
That is all I expect for changes at this time. I wish it were more.
When it comes to brand-specific interiors, here’s how I’d differentiate:
Chevrolet: Corvette-influenced interior styling, a “track” cabin (a cheap, weight-saving spartan trim that mimics the Z/28, minus removing A/C and rear seats), carbon fiber, and carbon-fiber veneer.
GMC: Rugged/luxurious. Stone and metal trims (aluminum, chrome, stainless steel, brass?, copper?). Angular shapes. Can be ordered with easy-clean truck bed plastic to replace carpet
Buick: An abundance of soft-touch materials, flowing surfaces, carpet you’d go barefoot on
Cadillac: Self-explanatory
As for looks of the present one it is subjective. You either love the Nox and hate the Terrain or you hate the Nox and love the Terrain. GM frames the styling well as they had something for everyone.
I hated the Terrain when it came out but the wife wanted one and to be honest I love the styling now and glad we did not buy the Nox.
The one key to the GMC is that the larger wheels are a must to fill up the square wheel wells. We got the 19″ and they change the look with filled wells. Also the vehicle sits much higher with these wheels and gives it a soft Hummer look.
As it stands now to me the Nox is the one that is not all that distinctive. It just has that universal generic look. But if that is what you like that is fine as we have two good choices and I hope the styling stays that ways with two different looks.
The Terrain Interior did nothing for me… but the exterior is striking. This is the car I want for no rational reason.
Maybe it’s just me.. but I wished they would give some pictures of the ‘camouflaged’ 2018 GMC Terrain as this article reminds me of articles where they’re talking about how a dinosaur is supposed to look without any type of illustration; it would be nice to see a camouflaged 2018 GMC Terrain with annotation to point out the differences between the new vehicle and the current GMC Terrain.
If you hit the link there are photo’s.
The photo’s belong to the Automotive News and they linked them here. If they posted them they would have to pay for them. It is general practice here to do this if they do not post photo’s.
make CUVs low, sleek and cool….not fat stubby and heavy.
