We recently reported on video showing off the upcoming 2018 Buick Regal testing in Colorado, but now CarScoops has, well, the scoop on some intriguing Regal information.
A reader supplied spy shots of a five-door Regal variant testing with a more conventional four-door sedan iteration. In Europe, the 2017 Opel Insignia and 2017 Vauxhall Insignia are very likely to switch wholly to five-door trimmings. But, North America is tipped to receive regular sedan styling.
If we had to venture a guess, General Motors could simply be testing the five-door variant at home for use abroad. But, there’s also a Regal TourX trademark sitting around for Buick to utilize, too. That could be a wagon, or it could be a more useful liftback body style to bring some extra “white space” to the Buick brand.

Do it! BMW, Audi both sell hatches is the us in this size and Audi’s about to bring the A5 hatch as well. I think it would be a nice differentiater from the Malibu and Lacrosse, how can it “step on toes” if it’s a configuration of no other GM sedan in the US?
Um, guys, Mark Reuss himself said more wagons are coming. It would be more shocking at this point if the Regal Wagon didn’t launch here.
The only reason the last Regal didn’t have a wagon option was that those decisions were made when the Saab 9-5 was part of GM. GM only wanted on Epsilon II wagon, and unfortunately, it was the one that Saab ran into the ground.
Dropping Verano seems smart, short term, but it’s a long term goof.
Excited to see a sporty, lighter regal with Hiperstrut and more room!
