The best holiday in the world – April Fools Day – has come and gone. Of course, as we do every year, we can’t help but participate. And in case you haven’t figured it out yet, Cadillac is not spinning off Escalade, Chevrolet is not reducing the Bolt EV price to $20, nor has it released an update for Teen Driver Mode, and Vauxhall is not going to build a wind-up Adam.
Lastly, Opel will not be making new sewing machines.
Historically, Adam Opel began his career as a locksmith’s apprentice, and eventually made his way to the sewing machine. In fact, the Opel Motors company was originally founded with the sewing machine, and the German-crafted machines have been famous since 1862 thanks to their high quality and durability.
Playing off this history for their April Fools story, Opel claims that its Management Board decided to introduce two sewing machines to the product portfolio in an attempt to attract new customers, going on to claim that they will be the most precise as well as the fastest sewing machine ever built.
The GT Concept-inspired sewing machine you see in the photo will make its “world debut during the 2016 Paris Fashion Week.” With the “Umparken im Kopf” campaign Opel has sparked an appreciation for diversity throughout Rüsselsheim, and these new machines help the automaker to capitalize on all the buzz. Yup. Sure.
