Get The Low Down On Why The LT4 Small-Bock V8 Makes A Great Crate Engine: Video

We knew it was coming, and Chevrolet did not disappoint when it revealed the 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 as a crate engine option at the 2015 SEMA Show last year. The brand has provided a short informational video to give potential engine swappers a little more information before pulling the trigger, though.

The LT4 is based on the same new architecture as the 6.2-liter LT1 V8, sans supercharger. That’s the LT4’s most significant differentiator. The 1.7-liter Eaton TVS supercharger is more compact than previous applications, and provides nine pounds of boost, spinning at up to 20,000 RPM. The end result is a staunch 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

We know it’s a capable engine from the 2016 C7 Corvette Z06 and 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, but we await what builders will plop this potent powertrain into.
