Chevy Impala Gets New Colors And Slight Equipment Group Changes For 2017 Model Year

The 2017 model year marks the fourth year of the current-, tenth-generation Chevrolet Impala on the market. The new model year brings several minor changes and updates.

The most notable change to the 2017 Impala is that the LTZ trim has been renamed to Premier, as per Chevy’s plan to replace LTZ with Premier across the lineup. But despite the name change, the 2017 Chevy Impala continues to be offered in three models, just like the 2016 model it replaces:

  • LS (1GX69)
  • LT (1GY69)
  • Premier (1GZ69)

One exterior color — Citron Green Metallic — is deleted, while two new ones — Arctic Blue Metallic and Pepperdust Metallic — are added. Plus, the Jet Black/Wheat interior replaces Jet Black/Mojave. The new interior color combo is available exclusively on LT and Premier trims and is pegged for late availability.

Finally, the LT equipment group gets streamlined from three trims for 2016 (1LT, 2LT, 3LT/CNG) to:

  • 1LT with the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine standard and available 3.6L V6 LFX engine, and
  • 3LT/CNG with the 3.6L V6 LFR engine

There’s also a note about cyber security being added to the vehicle, but we’re not quite certain what that means. We’ve reached out to Chevrolet for comment and will update this article when we hear back.

Following are GM’s official RPO-level changes to the 2017 Chevy Impala:

2017 Chevy Impala Deletions

  • (GA1) Citron Green Metallic exterior color
  • (H1P) Jet Black/Mojave interior trim

2017 Chevy Impala New Features

  • (GGB) Arctic Blue Metallic exterior color
  • (GMU) Pepperdust Metallic exterior color (late availability)
  • Cyber security added

2017 Chevy Impala Changes

  • LTZ is renamed Premier
  • Single LT equipment group with standard 2.5L 4 cylinder engine and available 3.6L V6 engine
  • Jet Black/Wheat interior replaces Jet Black/Mojave; available on LT and Premier; late availability

  1. Boy, how original is the name Premier for LTZ ( Bob Lutz tribute) seem to recall Chrysler’s Plymouth brand having the same used the name along with AMC for the Eagle brand. Think the name Caprice or CPC6 would have better customer recognition than Premier

    1. Mr. D- I also cannot stand the Premier trim name.
It’s used for all the non-GM consumers. You know…the herd

  2. It’s got FUYAO glass in the door windows, overpriced, can’t get the V-6 in the basic LS trim at all, a CD Player in anything but the Premier now, I don’t like the styling, and most of all, there’s no front bench seat anymore. So, to say I could care less about the Impala (or most new cars these days), would be a vast understatement.

  3. Add a 3.6TTand I will be in line to buy a new Impala !

  4. What are you talking about 3.6TT ?!?!?! Do you mean 3.6(liter) V-6 LFX engine? They should install the 3.6(liter) V-6 LGX engine from the Cadillac/Camaro already. Instead they are keeping the ancient 3.6(liter)V-6 LFX for another go-round 🙁

  8. Why is the cyber security a surprise? Cars have a lot of risky technology on them, now. And even with the “cyber security”, there’ll be hackers and other kinds of people out there working around it. They’ve gotta keep trying to stay ahead if they expect people to keep buying into it.

  10. I buy one new Impala every year since 2001. The 2014 was the finest upgrade from the old style, and all the added options are the best, especially the cruise control which will keep you safe in traffic. There is a V8 in the SS, but I drive the V6, gets 34 MPG at 75 MPH . Beats all the foreign junk. My car has 20 inch wheels, V6 is 305 HP, 6 speed Tranny. All black out side and black and wheat interior. My wife and I drove a Cadillac of the same type of body style, and the Impala LTZ out performed the Cadillac by a wide margin. Since 2014 the Impalas were priced in the 40,000 price , but I get a new one each year for about the old one and 10,000. I drive for tripping about 18000 to 20000 miles per year since I retired 30 years ago, and will keep buying the new Impala until can not drive any more. I REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR. jAPS DO NOT GET MY MONEY. TOGA, PRESIDENT OF TOYOTA HAD A FATHER WHO FLEW A JAP ZERO IN THE RAID. I WAS THERE AND WATCHED THEM BLOW US UP, SO I STAY COMPLETELY AWAY FROM THEIR JUNK.
