Chevrolet Corvette Driver Passes Away After Losing Control Of Vehicle At Drag Strip

Five-time IHRA world champion and the reigning Top Sportsman class champion in the Professional Drag Racers Association, Ronnie Davis, has passed away after losing control of his Chevrolet Corvette at Rockingham Dragway.

According to the Richmond County Daily Journal, Davis’ Corvette spun and flipped over the wall during his pass in a final qualifying run this past Saturday. A photographer and freelance journalist from Drag Illustrated was also injured by debris from Davis’ Corvette, but remains in recovery.

Local police do no suspect foul play in the incident, but have taken the car and equipment to conduct a full investigation into the crash.

Davis was life-flighted to the hospital in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries from the crash. He is survived by his two daughters and longtime companion, Micki Dearing.
