Finally… I’ve been waiting months for this day!
No major disappointments, but there are a few head scratchers here. I knew that leatherette (vinyl) would be the base seating material based on the information displayed with the car at the (Detroit) auto show. My questions is WHY? While I’m sure that improvements have been made since sliding around in my grandparents ’79 Malibu Classic wagon as a kid, it still seems like a low rent choice. Also, it’s only available with ONE color: light neutral, meaning that all base and “Preferred” trims will be stuck with the same (blah, IMO) interior color. Why no black? Why no option for real leather on the “Preferred”? What’s really so bad about cloth?
Still no power foldaway mirrors? Those should be included on the Premium trim for sure!
I’m not sure why the black/brandy interior isn’t available with Pepperdust metallic, but offering it with the Dark Forest Green and Dark Sapphire Blue seems like a mistake, as does offering the light neutral interior with the Quicksilver metallic. No word on the Dark Cherry Metallic listed as a limited production color at Buick.com …that’s the one I want. My distaste for charging extra for every color but white and black has been discussed ad nauseam, so I’ll refrain from rehashing it here.
The head up display is now standard on the Premium trim as it should be, but it’s no longer included in the Driver Confidence Package 1, or otherwise available anywhere else. The fancy new all-wheel drive system is also only available on the Premium. Both items should be offered on the Essence trim similar to how both can be had with the comparable “Leather” trim of the current model.
No more ST model, and I’m hoping the wheels we’ve seen on the Chinese spec model aren’t the same ones that will be included with the Essence/Premium as I’m not really digging them. LPO decklid spoiler is still available though.
Also, the fuel tank has shrunk to only 15.8 gallons -too small! The fuel economy better have gone WAY up, as I’m already filling up once a week with the 18.5 gallon tank.
Upon a more detailed review of the order guide, some other things that I have come away with:
The Ultra Lux package is also gone. I feel that the Brandy interior color is an acceptable substitute for the Sangria color that was included in the package, and as a bonus it doesn’t cost extra. The pics of the black/brandy interior appear to show a black headliner, but no word on whether it is sueded like now, or if the black interior will finally get a black headliner (hopefully also sueded) in place of the cheap looking gray headliner included now. The real wood trim is apparently gone too, which is no loss in my book as it is mostly superfluous anyway.
One of the models on display at the auto show appeared to have an illuminated grille emblem, which I don’t see noted here. I hope it’s a real thing though, because it was cool. The Camaro has the “glow tie” and I have seen various Mercedes with illuminated grille emblems as well.
While I’m on the subject of the grille, it is listed as “darkened waterfall with colored tri-shield and wing element “. While I can appreciate the new look, I’d like to see a LPO accessory for a chrome waterfall grille, which I’d prefer. Buick previously offered both chrome and blacked out grilles for the Lucerne, and at one point Chrysler was offering six different accessory grille inserts on the 300.
8 speed transmission where are the 9 speeds at?
Getting rid of cloth is a mistake
Charging extra for every color is ridiculous
1. 8 speed AT should be OK; previous 2nd gen LaCrosse is served by 6 speed AT, so 8 speed should contribute to better powertrain smoothness and some minor fuel savings as well. Hope the firmware of this 8 speed won’t be messed up – like it was initially on 9 speed FCA vehicles.
BTW, does anyone know what’s the 8 speed transmission here? From Aisin?
2. Getting rid of cloth is not a mistake; it just puts LaCrosse higher in ranks; cloth seats are for more budgetary vehicles.
3. Yes, charging for extra colors is indeed looking ridiculous. I agree here.
I saw it at the L A Auto Show last November and I really liked it. The gray with brandy interior is my choice. I have owned a Jaguar VDP Majestic, two BMW 740ILs and a MBZ S-55AMG.
This new Lacrosse is right-sized with a nice long wheelbase. Should be a great ride. Styling is dynamic, flowing and well-integrated. I will put on a set of XTS 5-spoke 20″ wheels if the offset and bolt-diameter work. I will have to check the Hollander Catalog and Acker Wheel iin San Jose, California.
In a shrinking marketplace for this size car it stands out and should do well.
Should be able to get AWD on all models.
I agree – in the past, with 2nd Gen LaCrosse (2010 m/y) they even started with AWD on CXL, which was a middle trim back then (like this Essense trim here).
Still no power folding mirrors, and Automatic Park Assist is only an option on top of Premium trim (it’s not that it’s a necessary feature, but it will be 2017 m/y, so it should make its way to at least next trim below the top). So, either GM intentionally continues to artificially distantiate Buick from Cadillac in features, as usual, or they just forgot to add power folding mirrors this time. It’s a pity, because it’s a nice feature to have, at least as an option somewhere closer to the top trim.
BTW, any hands-on drive test of 2017 Buick LaCrosse? It’s April already, and I saw none on the web so far.
Just curious, how much quicker it can be, than the outgoing 2016 LaCrosse, due to a new lighter body, new suspension and new powertrain?
The China LaCrosse has electronic folding mirrors, rear center armrest with air condition and entertainment control panel, full LED headlamps, and wipers with rain sensors. Ours is almost as good.
I think is shameful that the even at full-tilt a $50K premium Lacrosse doesn’t have LED headlamps, but a $35K Encore gets them??? Where are the rear-seat climate controls??? American’s do enjoy having premium features!
When I look at this Buick, it is definitely not my grandfather’s Buick. I wish it were because my grandfather’s Buick had more character to its style. You could tell it was a Buick. Not so with this Buick which looks so blah that it makes plain vanilla ice cream stand out. Sorry Buick, but you have decided to run with the pack rather than lead it.
HAVE A 2114 LACROSSE PREMIUM PKG #2 . VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE GAS MILEAGE. MY 2004 PON TIAC GP DID BETTER ON GAS. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CHAGE EXTRA FOR DIFFERENT COLORS. WHY NO RAISE THE PRICE.
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE GETTING LIKE DEALERS NICKEL AND DIME. THEIR IS NO MENTION OF A CD ? NOW THAT YOU HAVE MADE THE GAS TANK SMALLER . THE GAS MILEAGE MUST BE FANTASTIC. THE 2114 BUICK HAS A 6 QUART OIL CAPACITY. WHAT DOES THE 2117 HAVE? . WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHROME 20 WHEEL THAT WERE
AVAILABLE FOR 2114?
