Though certainly not the newest, the current-generation Buick Regal is still a fine midsize sport sedan. And for the 2017 model year — the seventh and what will likely be the last for the current model — the Regal is getting a few minor changes and updates.
To start: three trim levels and two models — Turbo 1SL FWD (4GP69) plus Sedan Turbo and eAssist FWD Premium I (4GR69) — are deleted from the 2017 Buick Regal, as are two exterior colors — Smoky Gray Metallic and Sparkling Silver Metallic.
However, the 2017 Buick Regal gets three new colors:
- Graphite Gray Metallic (additional charge, late availability)
- Black Cherry Metallic (additional charge, late availability)
- Pepperdust Metallic
And lastly, the IntelliLink infotainment systems are updated to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The 2017 Regal will likely be the last of the current-gen model until it’s replaced with the all-new, 2018 Buick Regal on GM’s E2 platform.
Following are GM’s official RPO-level changes to the 2017 Buick Regal:
Deletions
- Sedan Turbo Regal 1SL FWD (4GP69)
- Sedan Turbo and eAssist FWD Premium I (4GR69)
- (GLJ) Smoky Gray Metallic exterior color
- (GWT) Sparkling Silver Metallic exterior color
New Features
- (IO5) Buick IntelliLink Radio and (IO6) Buick IntelliLink Radio with Navigation now include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
- (G7Q) Graphite Gray Metallic exterior color (Late availability. Additional charge – premium paint)
- (GGA) Black Cherry Metallic (Late availability. Additional charge – premium paint)
- (GMU) Pepperdust Metallic exterior color (Late availability. Additional charge – premium paint)

GM is milking this cow. What’s taking them so long with the Insignia/Regal version of the Malibu?
It’s a global model that will be sold in Europe, North America, and Australia. What’s taking long is validation and development work… it’s not like they’re making pizza here.
GM is milking a lot of models.
They aren’t milking it, Car generations usually run for at least 4 model years
Buick Regal is pretty much Opel Insignia, and it’s only Regal which appeared in North America for 2011 model year; Insignia’s first model year in Europe was 2009, if I’m not mistaken, so it’s actually time for Global GM (Opel included) to replace the aging car with the totally all-new one. That said, I drove 2015 Buick Regal Turbo FWD with LTG engine last year – it’s a nice and rather fast car, BTW, but Regal isn’t much bigger than Verano (which is Opel Astra itself) in terms of interior space. Interior space should be improved in next-gen Regal, IMO. Hopefully, that’s the case, because, at this point, 2018 Regal aka Insignia is probably already built and being tested internally, I suppose.
new regal ininsignia comes wery fast i think. i dont see that so fast comes something gm new generation car. in september we must see that car. i hope for best. i hope thats not like new astra strategy. i hope quality what cant be cheap
