If you haven’t yet heard, luxury automakers are increasingly offering blackout packages on their vehicles. The packages usually include blacking out the exterior trim pieces that would normally be finished in chrome. GM’s Cadillac has been doing just that with Midnight Editions of the ATS Sedan and Coupe as well as the CTS Sedan but it has yet to offer the Midnight Package on the new Cadillac CT6 full-size prestige luxury sedan.
So to follow up our two renderings of the XT5 Midnight Edition from a week or so ago, we’ve created two hypothetical 2016 Cadillac CT6 Midnight Editions — one in black and one in white — by blacking out the following exterior elements:
- Wheels
- Grille
- Lower fascia trim
- Daylight opening (DLO) surround (the trim around the windows)
- Mirror caps (the lower portion of the CT6’s mirrors is already black)
- Decorative door trim (that runs on the lower end of the doors)
The black rendering has a very sinister appearance, while the white one appears to be more elegant, albeit with touches of sporty blacked-out elements.
So, what are your thoughts about a CT6 Midnight, and which do you like better — the white or the black one? Sound off in the comments.

Gorgeous in white.
With the new trend of offering a blacked out treatment on vehicles , I think it looks good on some and not so much on others . Or just the black wheels that is hot right now . I have a neighbor that has a burnt orange Silverado and recently had black wheels installed on it . He ask me what I thought , …….. I was nice and said I liked it but everytime I see his truck now I think of Halloween . And they were the flat black too .
I know on alot of luxury cars and even SUV’s you don’t see much shiny chrome anymore but a satin chrome which I like . It’s on my 2016 Terrain Denali . The grill though is chrome .
I’m have mixed feelings about the black CT6 , but do like the white one .
Have you guys rendered an Escalade w/ Midnight edition .
Or a white one similar to your CT6 .
The Escalade done in a metallic Black w/ shiny black wheels I think woud look sinister or gangsta .
Throw the LT4 640hp supercharged 6.2L V8 and this Midnight Edition Cadillac CT6 would truly make a statement.
How about a V-Sport version of the midnight edition?
I wouldn’t think they would do a full V series Midnight Edition but it would be wickedcool if they did.
Here is a story from yesterday…. Getting oil change at a KEY dealer for Canada’s largest and most affluent market. My 2016 ATS Midnight Edition comes into service bay lookin fresh and washed. 2 sales people approach saying ” wow, that looks amazing what you did to it” etc. I asked did they not sell any of these packages?…. They looked at me like I was from the future and asked ME to tell them about it?!?!!?!?!?
I am surrounded by blacked out, sporty competition through Toronto. Everywhere, that is what the younger crowd, the hipper crowd is going for. Yet these two help me explain why I have seen zero on the roads here outside of mine. Thankfully, Cad sales are going up here. But I suspect they could be MUCH better if the dealers KNEW about their product ( I tried to tell them to source this website…that it may give them something to get excited about knowing what is coming down the pipe.) And if they would actually market these in advertising, with professional pictures?!?!? Maybe display one at the auto show to show that you do not need 75k to drive a sporty Cadillac. When I do see newspaper ads they are for blowing out base model ATS/ SRX without the cool lights and crappy wheels. Come on folks.
That’s truly a shame that dealers know so little about the Midnight Editions of the ATS and CTS. Unfortunately, they are rarely in sync with the latest factory/corporate directives.
That said, it’s also on Cadillac. If they made it a CAP goal for their field sales teams (the employees responsible for dealer sales performance) to have dealers order a certain amount of Midnight Edition vehicles, the awareness of the models would spike through the roof, since now there would be personal accountability involved, which is tied to personal year-end bonuses.
Alex the GM dealerships in Northeast Ohio are so not informed about their products.
A few months ago at a Chevrolet dealership, the salesman kept telling me that the 2016 Cruze limited is the new Cruze and I was explaining to him that the new generation Cruze which is also a 2016 is the one I am talking about.
He had NO CLUE about the new gen Cruze. THat is sad as they should be informed.
That is one example I have many more. some at Bucik-GMC dealerships and also at Cadillac.
My experiences are in NE Ohio, which has Cleveland and Alron- so these are not rural areas. a lot of sales go through some of these dealerships and the info they give out is sad.
The CT6 just looks like any other cadillac…nothing new and exciting.
If you’re talking about the new Cadillac commercials then yes, but it’s products are anything but boring or un exciting.
“The CT6 just looks like any other cadillac…”
A Cadillac looking like a Cadillac. How could they! Outrage!
Dear rye,
Please shut up.
Thank you,
The Internet.
Just looks like a super sized ATS…..not a flagship
The CT6 is an evolution. Have you seen the car in person?
But, so long as we’re sharing opinions…
The ATS is (arguably) the best-looking in its segment. By association, having a larger ATS in the CT6 is actually a very good thing since it… you guessed it… is also the best-looking in its segment.
And that’s a nice place to be for a first try… as per my opinion.
You are right it’s not a flagship that’s what ct7 or ct8 will be. When you think about it though isn’t a 7 series a bigger 3 series? A cla a baby s class? It’s like that with every luxury marque and judging by the new e class’s
Interior and exterior being extremely similar to the s class the method of having family styling is not going anywhere.
Well, the CT6 and CT7/8 are the flagships. The 7/8 will be, for the most part, a stretched CT6 (styling included)… much like the 760i is to the 760Li and like the (Europe-only) SWB S-Class is as much of a flagship as the LWB S-Class, and Lexus LS460 is to the LS460-L.
ahhhaa. long versioin mean nothing. long version is just normal and logic one of the equipment this class. ct6 can easly flagship and ct6 is. but different level is different cars and car brands.
ahhaaa ct 9 and ct 10 is flagship
can ct15 beat new bmw 7 seria. thats not so easy car looks like car nad thats all, all cars looks like cars. mb s klass made facelift already ahhaaa and thats not only new grille or something. this is grazy world.
afterall can we buy allready ct6 today
looks sharp in white keep it up caddy
The ATS looks weird, awkward and bloated…and it’s not a hot seller…..I’m hoping the CT8 would looks much more like the Elmaraj.
Opinions about design are highly subjective. But once again, I will counter your sentiment by saying that the ATS is a beautiful car and is the best-looking in its segment. It has just the perfect amount of class, character, and fluidity.
Bloated? Awkward? Are we talking about the same car? There is nothing bloated or awkward about it.
So, I will return to my original questions:
1. Have you seen an ATS in person?
2. Have you seen a CT6 in person?
Only when you have seen both cars in real life can you comment with any sense of authority about their design.
Regarding your comment about the ATS’ sales: to say that its design (subjective, good or bad) is impacting sales is simply ignorant. In reality, the ATS is a new nameplate and is Cadillac’s first entry in the highly-competitive segment, which is now seeing pressure from crossovers and the newly-established subcompact segment (CLA, A3, etc.). There is a lot going on here… and for a vehicle designed during the bankruptcy with very little development funds, the ATS is actually doing very well. Granted, it’s not setting sales records… but neither did the first iterations of the 3 series, C-Class, or A4 (Audi 80). And that’s not to even mention that Cadillac as a brand is currently not as strong as its German rivals, resulting in smaller sales potential for its vehicles, no matter how good or bad they or their design is.
Lastly: the CT8 will be a stretched CT6. The Elmiraj (that’s the correct spelling) was a design exercise without production intent.
The thing I don’t like is how the beltline is down sloped witch makes the car look awkward and the the rear look fat…I think there would be some differences in the exterior and interior between the CT6 and CT8
As being different models and the CT8 being a later madal….I hope the CT8 wount have a down sloped beltline like the rest of the Caddys…your point of view….I don’t like the ATS at all I think it looks boring and dated and for the people that likes the ATS has vary bad taste.
Like I said, styling is subjective. You and I can sit here all day long going back and forth on what we think about the design of the vehicle: I like it, you don’t. Agree to disagree. I am not in the business of swaying your opinion.
But for you to suggest that the design of the ATS is *so* bad that it negatively impacts sales is as much of a stretch as saying that the Pontiac Aztek is the most beautiful car in history. At the end of the day, there are roughly 4,000 people around the world who buy the ATS with their hard-earned money… and who think it’s beautiful. That right there is a statement.
PS: you really ought to leave over-arching statements like “people who like the ATS have poor taste” out of your commentary. It demonstrates bad taste on your part. What you should do instead is answer the two questions I asked above (about whether or not you have even seen the ATS or CT6 in person). Doing so would be far more relevant to the conversation at hand.
As far as the styling on the ATS, I love it and also like the styling cues on the all Cadillac lines. I purchased an ATS for my wife and my only regret is that I did not purchase it for myself. I love driving it, I get a lot of positive comments and the handling has to be experienced to really understand just how good the ATS truly is.
I have not seen a CT6 in person but hope to do so soon. As far as the original question, I think the CT6 Midnight looks as good as any other black-out editions. However, I don’t care for the black wheels and the “murdered-out” look. What can I say, I was born in the 50’s so of course I like chrome. But I think Cadillac should produce it as it does appeal to younger buyers.
Cadillac is famous of looking like real Cadillacs…Cadillacs today don’t look like real Cadillacs…the ATS is nice for a compact car…but it’s styling isn’t suitable for a flagship…so Cadillac shouldn’t fallow the same
Foot steps as the Germans by making every car look the same across the lineup.
The Cadillac you are referring to fell behind and became so out of touch with the modern luxury car market and buyer that it now needs re-building… seen risky what had been taking place since the early 2000s until today. So it’s best you don’t even bring that Cadillac up.
As for the philosophical argument of whether Cadillacs should look similar (not the same, mind you) across the portfolio, well, look no further than the most successful, most desired, and most celebrated luxury car companies in the world, namely BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and (most recently) Lexus. All have a common design language that instantly allows their vehicles to be recognized as those from their respective brand. This is the most vital flr a luxury car, which are most often purchased on status and badge significance. In other words, you want people to know that you are driving a BMW, etc. What model you are driving is secondary to the fact that you are driving a BMW.
So, you really must consider the power of a brand, model portfolio, and image first. That’s the reason for common design across a range. Everything else is secondary.
Cadillacs styling has vary old routes…..and is routed from the early 2000s…it would be much bolder turn if Cadillac takes styling from the Elmaraj….and yes I’ve seen the ATS in person and it just looks weird and bloated and
the interior is too German and too BMW…I would love to see American flair in Cadillac again…the ATS is premium compact sedan.
MADE IN CHINA??? THEN NO WAY!!!
I think it’s sad that we are talking about Cadillacs that are produced in China. I have been waiting for years for GM to come out with a performance rear wheel drive large car that I would buy in a minute. If it is made in China I will not be buying it. I will stay with my SUVs. GM has gone horribly wrong with their plans to produce in China!
Ron, I assume you are aware that the CT6 is made in Detroit, right? The CT6 plugin hybrid is the one being imported from China. Just the one variant. That’s it.
I currently have a 2002 DTS BLACK ON BLACK. Owned since new. Still looks relevent, all chrome is blacked out as well as grill.Came that way from factory. Only chrome is a single strip along the bottom of side windows. And the wheels. Recently I put a photo of it along side a photo of a BLACK CT6. Surprisingly the bloodlines flow through. Can’t wait to drive a CT6, hope it passes the butt test….
Looks like Cadillac is applying the same boring design on the CT6….the ATS..CTS…CT6 all look boring and dated and uninteresting…sorry…I’ll
Hope the CT8 will be much flashier.
Repeating the same (unpopular) opinion over and over and over again doesn’t make it true.
Mid night would look nice on the CT6
looks like everyone likes the ATS/CTS more than the Elmeraj…why….. the ATS and CTS are not selling….and the Elmeraj is so gorgeous…it makes no scents what so ever to like the ATS/CTS more than the Elmeraj.
dated and boring pos….
I don’t think the Caddys are POS….I think there are great cars…..but I do think they are a
Little dated and tired in their design.
I have a CTS and LOVE it!! I think is sporty in looks and handles tremendously well. I was taken to the dealership in a NEW Honda and it was a very bumpy ride and not to my liking at all.
CT6 AWD Turbo Platinum White murder out trim is ideal for me. Don’t get me wrong the CTS-V is an awesome platform to bring out the inner car guy, but for me it’s about the luxury, tec, & just the right amount of horsepower needed for a daily driver. It is a perfect investment. Not to mention the DVD package to distract the future grandkids. Thank you Cadillac for the Midnight edition! You just swayed my decision…..
