GM’s USPTO Trademark Application For ‘Granite’ Progresses

Back in May of 2015, General Motors filed a new trademark application with the Untied States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the term GMC Granite. The application succeeded two prior applications, which GM had abandoned. Last week, the application took an important step in the registration process as the USPTO published the application for opposition on March 1st, 2016.
When a trademark is published for opposition, it is published in the USPTO’s Official Gazette, giving any outside parties 30 days from the publication date to either:
- File an opposition to the application
- File an extension to oppose the application
Assuming that the trademark passes this crucial phase, the next step will be for GM to file a Statement of Use with the USPTO, a document that outlines how it will use the trademark in a real-world product or service. GM can also file extensions (a maximum of five, each lasting six months) to file the document if it can not demonstrate a real-world product with the Granite name. A trademark can not be registered without filing a Statement of Use document.
Now that you know the details, check out our predictions surrounding what GM could be planning for the GMC Granite name.

I love this car. And I don’t care who knows it. 😉
Always have liked the concept . Maybe that Granite for the SUV above the Acadia and Graphyte for the small compact bellow the Terrain . it would be nice to have a Jeep contender though . Not a pretender but the real deal .
Especially with real 4wd. No more mommy-mobile FWD “SUVs”
