It’s not every day a former design chief graces his abilities once again. During the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Erhard Schnell arrived to sketch up one of his famous Opel GT drawings, and he did just that.
Schnell was responsible for the first-ever Opel concept car, the GT Experimental. Years later, his design would go into production as the Opel GT.
Since the 2016 Geneva Motor Show was a celebration of Opel GT, Schnell returned, and the brand caught his sketching on camera to share with the world.
Schnell would go on to become Opel’s chief designer until 1991, leaving his trace on countless Opels over decades.
Comment
This may be splitting hairs but the Director of Design at Opel from 1983 to 1992 was Wayne Cherry. If there was a title of Chief Designer at Opel, the role would have reported to Mr. Cherry. This comment is not intended to reflect poorly on Erhard Schnell, simply to identify who headed Opel design at that time-frame.
