The 2016 Cadillac CT6 is nearly ready to launch in the United States, but the winner of the first production 2016 Cadillac CT6 has taken delivery of the first example.
In April 2015, Ohio Dealer David Flynn paid $200,000 for the first retail production Cadillac CT6 as top bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach, Florida. His bid benefited the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and he’s ecstatic to have his hands on VIN 001.
“It’s terrific,” he said. “I told my oldest daughter she could have it, but I’m re-thinking that decision now after seeing it.”
Flynn also toured the CT6 body shop and general assembly before meeting some of the Detroit-Hamtramck staff and 2016 CT6 launch team.
When asked if surprised about her dad winning the CT6 auction, Flynn’s daughter, Katie, replied, “Not at all, my dad has to have the first of everything.”

“Touring Six” begins ride his freeway to heaven of sucess
It’s a beautiful car. I hope it does well for Cadillac. 🙂
it sure is beautiful.
“It’s terrific,” he said. “I told my oldest daughter she could have it, but I’m re-thinking that decision now after seeing it.”
What is the dad driving that he was going to give this beautiful vehicle to his daughter instead of driving it himself?
The Cadillac CT6 is a beautiful car, I hope its a commercial success.
I might consider one myself when my CTS lease is up in February.
They’re really taking there time with this launch arent they. When it debuted last year, they said itll be in showrooms by the end of the year. Then itll be in showrooms early 2016, then March 1st. Point is they are still not in showrooms. Should be a 2017 model at this point.
Hopefully they worked out all the kinks and fixed everthing they needed to. Last thing Cadillac needs is this car with alot of issues out of the gate. Wish them the best.
I agree it has taken a while to bring to market and that it should be a 2017 model at this point. The XT5 will be a 2017 model so why not this one?
I hope all the kinks are worked out also. I read an article ( I can not remember where) that said that the shift mapping for the transmission was not fully sorted out but an engineer said it would be by launch. I hope things like that are taken care of. I know that it is impossible to predict everything though.
Yes, maybe it should be 2017 by now, but this CT6 was announced as 2016 model year well in advance (like a year ago or something like that), so making it model year (MY) 2017 and thus skipping MY 2016 would be perceived by public as a delay or more like a sort of a failure which would hurt Cadillac’s image.
Imagine some Cadillac boss giving an interview and answering the question:
“Why you initially announced CT6 as 2016 model year, but released it only as 2017 year?”
with this sort of answer:
“You know, initially we were optimistic when we were bragging that we will deliver it on time as MY 2016, but later on, because it’s such an awesome new vehicle with new and innovative light and complex body structure and almost everything else being new, we dropped the ball a bit with timely manufacturing execution and then, since it was too late for MY 2016, we released it as MY 2017”.
Hard to imagine this sort of answer, right? Since it’s not a best business PR practice? 🙂
The boss who would say that would be fired right away the same day 🙂
I get your point but having a 2016 MY vehicle come out 7 months after other manufacturers 2016 MY have been available is also is failure if you are looking at it in those terms.
I think it would be better off being called a 2017 so at least it would have the perception of being the most current MY vehicle. Incidentally most people who will buy this car are unlikely to go back over old press releases to confirm when executives said the model was going to come out and be dissapointed that they did not live up to their claims enough to not buy the car.
$200000 is way too much, however, the good thing here is this money is going to fight cancer.
What’s the trim and powertrain of this first unit?
Platinum with 3.0 V6 TT?
Nice car anyway.
The $200K becomes a charitable donation on the dude’s tax return and he gets the bragging rights and maybe resale value appreciation in owning the very first North American CT6.
win..win…
This is a beautiful car . You really need to see it in person because the pictures don’t do it justice . I like it even better because this is what a Cadillac should be . It;s a definite home run for Cadillac . And how cool is it that the first production car is going to help a worthy charity .
GM is doing alot better with vehicle launches . The first cars run down the assembly line are taken back to the launch team and literally torn apart to see where there might be a potential problem . The line speed is slower than normal to help the builders learn how it is put together . And after all of that it is a small increase in cars per hour until everyone on the build teams feel comfortable doing their jobs . Even then the development team will pull a car at random and give it their full attention to the details .
The days of people worrying about buying the first model year of a car afraid of defects really shouldn’t be if they knew what goes on inside of a modern GM facility these days .
It sure is a nice looking car. Like someone else said, pics do not do this car justice and it needs to be seen in person. After seeing it in person I really think that cadillac could be satisfied with the CT6 as it’s top tier flagship. But to think that they have something in development that will be bigger and more luxurious then this car is just plain awesome.
its kind of weird that the XTS has a bigger trunk and the CT6.
It’s not just the CT6 – all Cadillacs’s current RWD (or RWD-biased) sedans – ATS, CTS and now CT6 – have relatively small trunks for their respective size classes. For some reason, Cadillac does not prioritize trunk size in sedans (except the FWD or FWD-biased XTS).
Great point. But I would hope that changes with the CT8.
they should have bigger trunks….plus they would look better….the current Caddys look like they have chopped off trunks as looking side view profiles..the front looks longer than the rear…..the CT6 is too much like the ATS and CTS…it isn’t a flagship…..Ill hope the CT8 is much more like the Elmeraj and have a much bigger trunk.
I guess, CT8 will come in the next two to three years, will be just another several inches longer than CT6, will cost another 10 K – 20 K more, will be only V6 and V8 (no small 2.0 Turbo LTG from Buick Regal and Chevy Camaro) and will again have the same design, as they all do. That’s how I see it happening.
Again with this… Same ole same ole from GMI huh Rye?
As a recent purchaser of a ’16 CTS-V.. I have zero issues in terms of truck space.. and in fact often wonder why my ’14 Impala has a trunk as large as it does as it goes unused. I don’t have a problem one way or another.. but fail to see the need for every vehicle in every class to have a trunk that can carry 30 suitcases

No it isn’t. XTS is a FWD car. The cabin sits further forward toward the front of the car leaving more room behind for a large trunk. Also, no rear differential/axle. It’s really very simple.
I believe the CT8 will be a little different from the CT6…I believe the CT8 will be a much longer car than the CT6 and be much more like the Elmeraj in design….I believe the won’t come till 2019 or 2020 and Cadillacs current design theme would be out of style by than and it has allredy gone stale…the CT8 will be $70k-100k more than the CT6 and be much more.
Now that the Cadillac CT6 is in formal production, I wish to see the first Plug-in Hybrid CT6, even if it is assembled in China.
I was waiting for the s class rival and I got a bigger cts, which looks boring and dated. With a lot of plastic inside….
Plus u cant get the v8 lmfao…. this car is a joke. The front is okay due to the led headlights, but the tail and the profile is a pos.
exactly….after the truly stunning concepts…it was a big disappointment with the CT6….Art and Science is old and outclassed….I’m still waiting for the CT8…and hopefully it won’t look like a big boring CTS.
True, bro. But as far as I know, there won’t be anything till the 2020+.
Only small and cheap models like ct2 or smth and a sedan that is smaller than the ats… At least I hope, they will bring the new style. Cadillac is 2 slow.
Elmeraj styling and profile with a bigger trunk please.
The 2016 Cadillac CT6 makes a statement like the C7 Corvette and is a car people need to test drive before considering buying something else as the CT6 uses aerospace design technology in the manufacturing and assembling as this is is why it’s so much lighter and has forced some of their competitors to use carbon fiber to keep from being a thousand pounds heavier; the CT6 is helping Cadillac reclaim the moniker of standard to the world.
the CT6 is no where near a flagship in terms of design, size and class….(number 1)…204 inches is not big and the trunk is smaller than the Malibu which is tiny for its size….(number 2)….it just looks like a giant ATS and the rear looks small wedged and fat as it looks like the trunk is nearly chopped off….(number 3) a lot of plastic inside the cabin and the seats look like they belong to a Chevy and the whole interior looks cheap….the CT8 needs to be way further up the latter in those 3 things I mentioned.
Well rye I think you need to learn more about the CT6 before you embaress yourself further . At this point in time the CT6 is their flagship model , with better things to come , that’s # 1 .
# 2 if you want a bigger trunk there are several SUV’s on the market right now that will help you out . This car wasn’t built to haul 4×8 pieces of plywood .
#3 Sure there is plastic inside the cabin , but at every touch point you have soft leather to rest your elbow on the door and your right arm on the console . And the seats have enough lateral support to keep you in place while you are driving and are heated and cooled for your enjoyment .
Don’t judge the car by pictures you have seen on the inter-web . Have you seen it in person yet . Even the front lighting is different from the ATS as is the grill .
I am all for people expressing their own thoughts but you couldn’t be more wrong .
And you can count on the CT8 being a whole different animal from than anything you have seen so far . It will be an evolution of the A & S design philosophy .
have u seen the ct8? when it is coming?
than the CT8 is going be boring and vary dated….is the CT8 going to look like the CTS or is it going to look like the Elmeraj.
Troll
the CT8 is said to be here for 2020.
I just looked at the CTS in an ad and the side profile looked so down sloped….the beltline and hood just down slopes as they are focusing too much on arrowdynamics….it just looks boring and dated….no wonder why the ATS and CTS are selling poorly….I’m sure that’s not the only reason.
