This isn’t a gimmick, or an April Fool’s joke. This is the Domino’s Pizza DXP delivery vehicle, and it has one mission: get your pizza to your door hot, fresh and ready with any necessary pizza accessories.
The latest Autoline After Hours has Russel Weiner, President of Domino’s USA, discuss how the idea came to be, to bring a true, purpose-built pizza delivery vehicle to life.
Of course, Domino’s hasn’t invested in its own architecture, and sourced the beginnings from a Chevrolet Spark. After beginning life as a Spark, Local Motors performs the conversion to remove passenger seats and strips the sub-compact vehicle of its regular practicality. After the conversion, the rear hatch is transformed into a full-blown pizza oven, capable of holding 80 pies in the rear.
There’s even special sections to hold napkins, cola, dipping sauces and other essential pizza compliments.
It’s an ambitious project, but it’s real. There are 100 Domino’s DXPs currently on the road across the United States, with the hope for more to come. Grab the details in the extensive interview up above.
