Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition Totaled Before It’s Even Delivered: Accident Watch

Can you imagine waiting nearly a whole year for the arrival of your brand-new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition only to find out that a dealership employee totaled the Corvette before it could even be delivered to you?

Sounds terrible doesn’t it? Well, that’s allegedly what happened to the Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition that you see here. Initially, the story was that the owner had destroyed the car the same day it was delivered, but it was unclear whether the owner was behind the wheel or whether workers at the shop it was taken to for window tint had decided to go for a joyride.

Eventually CorvetteBlogger discovered that it had been a Chevrolet dealership employee behind the wheel of the C7.R Edition Z06, and that the owner had actually not yet received the car. In this case, even though the owner lost their collectable car, and the number of 500 C7.R Edition Z06 Corvettes has dropped to 499 in existence, there’s still a silver lining. On one hand, the owner isn’t responsible for the damages and will likely be able to find some other car to mend the pain, and someone somewhere will be able to purchase a very low mileage LT4 engine from the scrap yard at a discount. Maybe.

  1. Wait, was a dealership employee taking the car for a joyride before actually handing it over the the new owner? There is so much wrong there…

    1. Having worked at a dealership I know every vehicle must be taken on a approximately 10 mile test drive before being sold. This is to make sure everything is functioning as it should. At my shop this was done by the “Lube Techs” which was kids right out of high school. This meant the first 10 miles of every car was driven with the pedal to the floor and likely had traction control turned off for a nice smokey burn off.

      1. Does this dealership where high school kids abuse new cars before sale have a name?

      2. My 15 Z06 had 3 miles on it. I wouldn’t do business with a dealership that let just anybody drive my new car. There is absolutely no reason for it.
