The Chevrolet Camaro accounted for 6,151 U.S. deliveries in February 2016, a decrease of 3.48 percent compared to the 6,373 units delivered in February 2015.
By comparison, the Camaro’s most direct rivals — the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger — recorded higher percentage sales gains of 18.2 percent and 6.28 percent, respectively. This allowed Ford to sell 9,993 units of the Mustang, a full 3,842 units more than the Camaro, while 5,585 units of the Challenger were delivered, 566 units less than the Camaro.

The GM Authority Take
Chevrolet is clearing out remaining units of the now-discontinued fifth-generation Camaro while ramping up sales of the all-new, sixth-gen Camaro. As such, we would wait a few months to see true market sales figures of the new 2016 Camaro.

Can’t wait for the redesign next year when sales slump becaues visibility is horrible
Because that prevented the fifth gen Camaro from outselling the Mustang year after year while also carrying significantly higher transaction prices…
PS: drive it for a week and you get used to it.
Have to admit. Really wanted to buy one. Wife said rent it for a week, which we did. Couldn’t get over the visibility issues. End result, didn’t buy.
The main problem is simple lack of cars for the most part of the new one.
Most local dealers here are selling the new cars as they come in and many people who are buying are waiting for their ordered car.
Sales of the old one are down a little due to the new car and the fact most people want the newer model.
Visibility is not perfect but better than the last model and no worse than many other cars. It is something that is not impossible to get over if you hold any kind of basic driving skill.
Agree with you about availability. Myself and my brother went to our local dealer to take a look at the Chevy SS (I’m really thinking about pulling a trigger on one) and while we were there my brother wanted to check the Camaro out, since he drives an M3 and M4 just lost to the new Camaro SS in Motor Trend comparo. They only had one left at the dealer, V6 version, and it was sold already. We couldn’t even check it out because it was locked and they won’t let anybody touch it if it’s sold.
We went to another dealer and they had only one new SS but it was at another location. Whatever they get in it gets sold in a day or two.
The 2.0T isn’t available at all yet. Sells will pick up once every dealer has descent inventory.
It is amazing that GM in an effort to be the ultimate in hot muscle car , chopped the top down so low so as to seriously compromise visibility . .It hasn’t bothered the hard core enthusiast , who will put up with any pain to be relevant….kind of like a woman putting on a pair of high heeled hot looking shoes that pinch the feet and are painful to wear…maybe ??
The point is , that aiming for this enthusiast crowd leaves a lot of potential customers not wanting to visit the dealership for a test drive , but if they actually do test the car , they walk away dissatisfied . What is so stupid is the fact that a higher greenhouse would not compromise wind resistance ( Mustang and Challenger come to mind), drivers would sit higher up and no longer sitting at the bottom of a bathtub as the present situation appears to be !
The Camaro will close the gap with the Mustang when full model availability arrives and they start advertising the new model which has not occurred yet.
Wow! That old “fat” Challenger is really catching up to the ‘Maro! I believe part of the Camaro’s sales slump is due to the pricing of the new models! They’re considerably higher than the 5th gen! And yes, the poor visibility probably plays a part as well: as I’ve come across several 5th gen Camaro owners who’ve traded in for either a Mustang or Challenger in recent months because of it! usayjim pretty much nailed the biggest issue I personally have with the Camaro! GM should’ve designed the car with more than just the driving enthusiast in mind; more focus on practicality is critical in today’s auto sales!
The new Camaro has the performance credentials to solidify its many accolades, but some of its glaring flaws are slowly beginning to be reflected in these sales numbers! Perhaps more time may prove otherwise….
There is 3 things that are going to hurt the sales numbers of the Camaro.
When I say “hurt”, I don’t necessarily mean that it is not going to sell well.
BUT here are 3 things that are going to turn away some consumers.
1) STYLING just driving past the dealership, you can barely, if at all, even tell if it is a 2015 or a 2016 on the lot.
2) The PRICE (even though the Camaro worth the price), some consumers might not want to spend that much.
3) VISIBILITY- It’s better than the 5th gen. but some ppl new to the Camaro that drive it for the first time will say no way I can’t see out of it.
Again the Camaro is going to put up good sales numbers, but those 3 issues will put a little dent in ’em!
Totals will be a little down this year due to the late start up of production in Dec vs. July that is normally done. But with that said the Camaro after the slow start up of production will sell in 6 figures next year so if that is dented I will take it.
The only thing that could hurt it is the economy as that is one area that GM can not control.
If you have not spent time with the car you should your dents are not legitimate if you have been around one more than just driving by,.
The truth is the evolved styling will sell more cars vs. blowing up the styling all together. The fact is in person you will never mistake the two years.
You want to grip about head room in the back seat you have a legit gripe. As for price it is no worse or better than anything else. It is 2016 and you are not going to get much for $25K anymore. even in SS trim it is still cheaper than most pick up trucks with extended cabs and 4X4 with similar options.
Haha Dude you are so wrong. I listed the 3 things that will hurt the sales (and it won’t hurt em much)- I did not say the 2016 Camaro was going to lose mine. Keep reading below kid:
Listen, I have a 2014 and I am going to buy a 2016 as it is smaller and I know the difference been in one-I am 5’6″ and it fits me fine. To me the 3 things I listed do not mean anything. And I’ll up the ante- I don’t give a damn about the backseat. it can be small as hell and I am fine with that.
I was talking about the average consumer. You need to put yourself in their shoes (which obviously you can’t because you are an informed consumer and you know the difference between the 5th & 6th Gen).
You know the average person cannot tell the difference between the (refreshed 5th Gen) 2014,15 Camaro and the 2016.
You are fooling yourself if you do not think the sticker price on the SS1 & SS2 is not going to scare a few ppl off.
In your post you are trying to explain to me what “I am not seeing”- I mentioned general consumers …What makes you think that Dr. Fatso is an average consumer?
I’m getting my 2016 Camaro SS.
So again go drive by a dealership with a few of your friends and point out a 2016 camaro by a 2015 Camaro and ask em to “Check out the new Camaro”- I bet you they won’t be able to tell driving by.
Cause I drove past the one here in Ohio that had both on the lot and the ppl with me could not tell the difference.
Your post to me is condescending. Stop assuming that other ppl that post on here like myself “have only driven past one” cause you might just make yourself sound stupid…whoops.
So Scott, come again?
Dr, Fatso
Interesting! I considered ordering new SS but didn’t like no lumbar seat support, ugly rear spoiler and cartoonish hump over gauges. Not to mention the poor visibility.
I went with a lightly used (like new with 7,000 miles) 2012 Mustang GT Premium with manual transmission, and very happy with the huge savings!
If you want to delete the spoiler and use the V6 blade that looks better a good dealer can make it happen. I hate the SS wing too.
The dash humps are not as low as I would like either that is a legit observation.
HI, why is the SS wing not liked? is it dated? does the blade spoiler work better or even out the car’s proportions?
Or is it just a personal preference?
I just ask as they both look decent to me. but I hope someone fills me in because I may be missing something here.
Thanks- Dave
Yes Dave, the blade does function better for downforce. To me, IMHO, the wing looks too mustangish for me personally and does not perform as well either. If you want a wing to work it must look like either the now defunct NASCAR COT wing or something that looks boy racer like what’s on the viper. A Z06 wicker bill is what’s needed for real street downforce.
Chevrolet like Cadillac need to use third party testing as proof their product is good.. like in Motor Trend’s recent head to head testing between a 2015 BMW M4 and a 2016 Camaro SS, they said the 2016 Camaro SS was the superior car; this is mind numbing as who would have thought there would ever be a day when a car magazine would say an American pony car was better than a German super-car and the fact they are now saying that the Chevy and Cadillac are better than the best in the world.. is something they’ve got to use in print and TV commercials.
They do need to market it a little more and they need to market it as a GT coupe and stop this pony car nonsense.
The Camaro and Mustang are transforming into true global GT cars that most working people still can afford. They are no longer the econo car based cheaper performance model. They can meet and match the performance dynamics of many much more expensive GT models and should join the segment. While they may lack some uber expensive items of the BMW they can challenge them on price and all performance dynamics
not just power.
Not only would marketing them as a GT would help in the global markets and image it would also lay to rest the based on an Econo car myth and help show that these cars while more expensive are a very good value for all you get for the price you pay.
No it is not cheap but find another car other than the Mustang that can nearly do as much for this price.
For the price of a loaded FWD 4 cylinder sedan you can have a true world class performance coupe.
Need to bring out the ZL1 with more than 460 hp something like the 600 or more HP……
You have to save something for next year once everyone buys their SS now. They can’t build them fast enough to meet demand.
You will get at lest 40-65 more HP by then.
Absolutely! Considering the mustang GT has 435hp with only 5 liter displacement that equates to 87hp per liter and with 6.2, the LT1 needs to be pushing approx. 539hp. Yes, it’s only a pushrod motor vs DOHC but the LT1 needs a better tune and perhaps camshaft to get in the 500’s HP range. You can buy a 525hp LS3 crate motor from GM Performance so why not an LT1? Also, stronger forged internals for an LT1 for a “boost ready” motor which will obviously not be covered by warranty. This is merely my preference and not to be expected, obviously.
… and the Camaro is built for small people, … I sat in one and almost couldnt get back out at 6-4, … yet I fit into the Challenger, … and used to drive Trans Ams, … that Camaro is T I N Y !
