The Chevrolet C7 Corvette Z06 has been selected to be the pace car for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen racing event taking place on Sunday, July 3rd, at the Watkins Glen International race track in New York.
“We are proud to have the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 pacing the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen,” said Jeff Chew, Manager of Strategic Planning & Operations for Chevrolet Racing. “Watkins Glen International and the Chevrolet Corvette are two iconic brands that are synonymous with high levels of performance. This is another great avenue for us to highlight our involvement with Watkins Glen and IMSA through our Corvette GT Le Mans and Corvette DP programs, our Corvette Racing Display and our Corvette Corral for our Corvette owners.”
The thought process behind the selection is simple and sensical – the Z06 embodies the ideas of fierce competition and performance that may come to mind when one hears “Watkins Glen International race track.” It’s the perfect candidate, powered by the 650-hp rated, 6.2L LT4 supercharged V8, and holding a record 0 to 60 time of 2.9 seconds. Having been developed alongside the Corvette C7.R, the victor of the 2014 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, just makes it that much more fitting.
“What a sight it’s going to be in July – a 2016 Corvette Z06 leading a field of some of the world’s most advanced prototypes and GT sports cars to the green on our brand new surface,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. Right you are Mr. Printup, and we’re just as eager as you are for the action to start.
