Chevrolet Argentina Sales Up 55 Percent To 8,200 Units In February 2016

Sales of new Chevrolet vehicles in Argentina totaled 8,200 units in February 2016, an increase of 55 percent compared to February 2015.

And, during the first two months of 2016, Chevy recorded over 16,900 sales. The results represent an increase of 10.7 percent compared to the same time frame in 2015 for a market share of 16 percent.

Vital to the brand’s growth in Argentina is the Chevy Onix. The affordable and tech-laden five-door subcompact hatchback has already landed itself among the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the market. The Gamma 2-based hatch offers high levels of technology and connectivity across all trim levels, including the segment-exclusive MyLink infotainment system, and accounted for 11,000 sales in 2015.

  1. Hmmmm, are they built in the US or Mexico? If not in the US, why should we give a $hit??? Ohhhh…..,right, in Brazil,for GM to make more $$$ and sell their bicycles too….

    1. Taking away building location for a minute, you’re saying that you are so closed-minded in your nationalism that you don’t care how GM performs in other markets… am I understanding that correctly?

      If so, you should consider that the US is by far not the only place to sell cars and thus turn a profit for a GLOBAL company such as GM, which ultimately impacts bottom line and investment into future product.

      And it’s the performance in global markets that often determines if we get vehicles… such as this second generation Colorado. It has been on sale in South America and Southeast Asia way before making its way to the gool ol USA.

      Also, you really should consider where moneys made in international markets winds up. For the most part, profit comes “home” to the US to be paid out as a dividend to shareholders in the US.

      And you ask why you should care.

      2. Really well said! C4ce sounds like an economic nationalist meaning he should want US world domination.
        Anyway, attractive car; every bit as good as VW. GMs biggest problem is the over lap between Opel and Chevy with neither brand producing truly unique products. The new SAIC platforms won’t help in the developing world but, instead, just rob GMUS of licencing fees.
        Long term, GM needs a four brand global: Boajun, Chevy, Opel/Buick/Vauxhall, and Cadillac.

          To that premice I thought that Silent Electrician’s reply was succinct and echoed what I was thinking upon reading the comment.
          Do you really think that building the say the Onix, for instance, in the US and shipping it to Brazil makes any economic sense?

          Further to the Silent Electricians point that GM is a global company and profits or losses in one area has an affect on the whole.

  2. This car would look great next to Karl in Europe and be a good Sonic replacement. GM, Chevy in particular, makes too many similar models that cannibalize one another. Ford has ONE as a way to avoid this and boost profits. GM doesn’t need multiple near identical models.

    1. This car would be discarded as garbage in Europe, next to even a Dacia. The Onix is a low-cost Sonic with a different body. In developed markets, it is not desirable.

      All in all, the sonic is a much better car than the Onix for markets like North America, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand. It’s also a better car for developing markets, but cost limits its success there, hence decontended and less complex-to-build Onix.

      As for Ford: they also have low-cost variants for developing markets:
