‘Big Red Edition’ Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Heading To Mecum Auction

The original Big Red Camaro gave birth to what we now know as the “Pro Touring” class in racing. The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has been awarded numerous titles, and most recently, recorded the fastest top speed of any first-generation Camaro at a staggering 251.8 mph, holding its place as the original outlaw.

Now, Team Big Red Camaro has issued a follow-up to the original. With one fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, the team created an immaculate representation of the past, with plenty of modern performance. The latest Big Red Edition Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will be sold off at Mecum in Houston, Texas on April 16, 2016.

Before you place your bids, know the Big Red Camaro comes packed with content. The Camaro Z/28 benefits from SLP engine upgrades, including intake and exhaust, a supercharger kit, UMI rear suspension components and more. To finalize the build, a set of Forgeline GX3R wheels sit at all four corners of the Big Red Camaro.

“We are extremely pleased to have Forgeline participate in this project with us,” said R.J. Gottlieb of Team Big Red. “The wheels could not be a better tribute to the original Big Red and they truly are the finishing touch on this amazing vehicle.”

All proceeds from the auction will go straight to Ride 2 Recovery, a charity benefiting veterans, and providing essential services to them.

“When we decided to do this build for the charity Ride 2 Recovery, we set out to choose the best products available for the modern Z/28, in order to pay tribute to the car I have raced since I was 17 years old,” said Gottlieb. “It was important to me, my family and the team that we make the Big Red Edition Camaro live up to the original car in every way possible. We are grateful to the many people and companies who’ve assisted us with this effort and we are proud of the results.”
