2017 Chevrolet Equinox Gets A New Color, Midnight And Sport Packages, Premier Trim

The Chevy Equinox is getting some a few minor updates and changes for the 2017 model year, which will likely become the last model year of the second-generation model.

To start, the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox does away with two exterior colors — Champagne Silver Metallic and Tungsten Metallic — while also deleting a set of 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels. What’s more, the range-topping LTZ model is renamed to Premier as part of Chevy’s brand-wide initiative to replace LTZ with Premier.

On to the new features: the 2017 Chevy Equinox introduces a new exterior color called Nightfall Gray Metallic as well as a Sport Package and a Midnight Package. Both packages are available exclusively on the 1LT trim level.

2017 Chevy Equinox Midnight Package contents:

  • Mosaic Black Metallic paint (GB8)
  • Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seats (AFL)
  • Memory settings for the driver seat and exterior mirrors (AAB)
  • 18-inch aluminum 5-spoke black slot painted wheels (RRS)
  • Black roof-rack cross bars (VQQ)
  • Black accented grille and rear fascia (LPO item)

2017 Chevy Equinox Sport Package contents:

  • Summit White paint (GAZ)
  • Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seats (AFL)
  • Memory settings for the driver seat and exterior mirrors (AAB)
  • 18-inch aluminum 5-spoke black slot painted wheels (RRS)
  • Black roof-rack cross bars (VQQ)
  • Black accented grille and rear fascia (LPO item)

In addition, the 2017 Equinox adds a new fleet-only equipment group called (2FL) based on the 1LT trim.

The 2017 Equinox will likely be the last model year of the current, second-generation model, since we expect it to be replaced by the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox on GM’s D2 platform over the next 12 months.

Following are GM’s official RPO-level updates and changes to the 2017 Chevy Equinox:

Deletions

  • (GWT) Champagne Silver Metallic
  • (GXG) Tungsten Metallic
  • (RV8) Wheels, 18″ (45.7 cm) chrome-clad aluminum

New Features

  • (G7Q) Nightfall Gray Metallic
  • (PDR) Midnight Package
  • (PDT) Sport Package
  • (2FL) Fleet only equipment group (LT based)

Changes

  • LTZ model now Premier

  1. My mom bought one of these. It seriously needs refining. The engine and transmission have no power the interior belongs in a car from 20 years ago. Its a shame the new one didn’t come in 2017.

    1. And I’m gonna assume your mom bought the 4 cyl.

      1. 4 banger with AWD yep.

        1. That’s why the 3.6 ltr. V6 is an option if you want some power.
so not too sure what your point is about the I4

          1. I asked the dealer about the v6 and he said you would have to take the AWD in order to get the v6. So if you have no use for the AWD you are out of luck. Bad decision GM.

    2. That’s what we have, a 2011 model, my wife drives it mostly. I’m not sure what your expectations were but it’s a fine CUV. 4 cyl does its job, it’s not a racer but it’s not a lawn mower either. It’s quiet a cruising, transmission is smooth, no rattles, it’s a very well put together vehicle. I would buy another one and always recommend it to my friends. No complains from me or wife.

    3. Cam — as compared to what? Despite its age, the Nox is actually quite competitive. Could it be that your expectations were such that your mom was buying a Corvette?

      1. This is such a fan boy site it’s hilarious. Anyway, I got a 16 Sierra and it’s great, far better then the equinox. So much quieter and way nicer and modern. That’s what I was comparing it too not a corvette.

  2. Why does GM always get rid of the ‘GOOD” colors???

  3. Car and Driver tested the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox equipped with the 2.4L DOHC-4v 4-cyl and 6-speed automatic transmission recorded zero to sixty times of 8.9 seconds which isn’t really too bad; but it makes you wonder what might happen if Chevy decided to adopt LWC 1.6L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo as it generates 200 hp @ 5500 rpm and 221 lb-ft of torque at 2200 rpm (that’s will be used in the 2016 Buick Cascada) as overall performance and fuel mileage might be slightly better.

  4. Well a small turbo in the present vehicle would have more power but would lose out on efficency of the 4 cylinder. You may as well buy the V6 then,

Now with the new one losing weight the turbo 4 would be right at home here with the added torque and power.

The fact they offer a V6 now leaves no excuse for anyone to complain about power.

The interior is nice but needs more soft touch areas. That is to be expected as this is really a very old vehicle compared to the rest of the GM lines right now. The interior is not bad but the others have improved over the last 6 years. Packaging was the real limitation and we will see a smaller vehicle with the next gen but the useful interior will remain the same of be better in most areas.

  5. I think that they should have improved the interior on the ’16 nox and maybe leave the outside alone. The thought entered my mind at the dealership the other day.
I wonder if anybody has any insight into this. Maybe doing the exterior was cheaper. Or maybe they had feedback on this.

    1. they thought they inproved the interior by taking away the CD player and making that space a shelf ?????
us old timers dont do tech stuff, I just want to get in my NOX and play some Dean or Tony, not have to buy a $ 1000.00 phone to record my music, so I can magically have it play on my trucks radio ?????
I bought the 2016 NOX and when I went to insert my CD and the salesman laughed, and said “OLD MAN, THAT IS SO 20 CENTURY”, I said then put me back in my 2015 NOX, where I can enjoy MY MUSIC MY WAY, and he did, with much hassle. I paid $ 5000.00 more for a year younger of the same new truck ??????

      1. The other problem we are now running into:

GA, like many other states, is banning cell phone usage while in your car, so we can’t change songs on our cell phone while in our car if something is playing that you don’t want to hear. However, it’s perfectly legal to hit a dashboard button to change over to another cd, if we still had an in-dash cd changer….

  6. Really wish the 2017 model was the NEW model, I’m in the market for one of these. Drove a new 2016 LTZ, 3.6 V6 yesterday, nice enough, solid, quiet, tons of room but it is feeling it’s age. Really didn’t like the ‘map’ in the nav. system, that needs to be replaced with a new version at the very least. Kids are disappointed the DVD option is no longer available but maybe that’s happening with future vehicles, going the 4G LTE Wi-Fi route or whatever.

  7. It burns me up that GM didn’t put the superior 2.5 from the Malibu/Impala in the refreshed 2016 Nox and Terrain. The old 2.4 has no business in any 2017 model GM’s and was supposed to be replaced years ago.

  8. Can the 2017 Equinox e towed flat behind a motorhome? Of ao,can you do that with the V6 or just the 4cyl ?

    Reply
    1. Yes the Equinox can be dingy towed. I don’t think the size of engine matters, you might want to ask an RV expert on that

  9. I bought a 2016 Equinox. I just assumed it had a CD player. 4 days later, my daughter aks me where the CD player is, and that is when I realized there was not one. I remember test driving the car and looking at the interior with all its storage and thinking, that’ll be great for my CD’s.
I have a smart phone. I don’t use the Itunes. I don’t have a MP3 player. I cannot figure out how to transfer all my cds to a usb. I have tried. It is ridiculous not to have a CD player in a vehicle.

  10. Got a 2017 with v6 awd and love it. 0 to 60 is about 5.8 seconds that’s faster than any other small SUV out there. They simply stuck the same drive train that’s in the new Cadillac XT5 in a much smaller lighter SUV. Drove it in three inches of snow home from the dealer and was passing folks like I have in my Silverado. With current incentives I got a Nave, heated seats, pioneer sound system model for 15k per year two year lease 0 down $219 per month. Show me any AWD 301hp SUV for so very little and ok I’ll jump at it. Its rocks I think they are dated even compared to my 2015 RegalT the Nav simply needs to be zoomed in from default and looks fine too. Hot spot is in my opinion stupid now that Verizon has unlimited data and everyone know how to make your smart phone a hot spot
