2017 Buick Encore Spied Fully Uncovered In China

Pictures of the 2017 Buick Encore refresh have been leaked by a Chinese website. As expected, the photos show an exterior refresh that looks identical to its overseas cousin — the updated 2017 Opel Mokka X that was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show last month.

In the front, changes to the Gamma 2-platformed crossover include a resculpted hood, new grille with the newfound Opel-Buick “wings”, new headlamps with the “double-wing” LED daytime running light design, along with a redesigned bumper cover, fog lamp housing and skid plate. The refresh gives the vehicle a significantly more masculine appearance compared to the pre-facelift Encore.

While no changes appear to grace the side of the subcompact crossover, the rear does appear to feature a reworked bumper cover that integrates a new skid plate. In addition, the tail lamps appear to go unchanged from the pre-facelift model. By contrast, the Opel Mokka X features new LED tail lamps.

2017 Buick Encore rear - leaked

Buick has confirmed that the 2017 Encore will make its North American debut at the 2016 New York International Auto Show that starts on March 23rd and its Chinese debut at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show that kicks off on April 25th.

  1. I wonder if the Buick will have turn signals in the mirrors or on the fenders…. Funny how GM works sometimes.

    1. Looks like they’re on the fenders… but this could all change for North America, or even before actual production.

  2. The first generation Buick Encore looked like the baby brother of Buick’s Enclave as this new 2017 Buick Encore looks if it’s shed it’s baby-fat with sleek and defined lines.

    1. This one is still the first generation, as this is a facelift/mid cycle enhancement.

    2. Yes, the original Encore was looking funny, as a baby crossover indeed 🙂
Correct me if I’m wrong (I’m a male myself), but these funny looks of this kind of subcompact crossovers (another example is Nissan Juke) are pretty popular within female population – it looks to me like they perceive these tiny crossovers like a “cute babies to adopt” – in indirect, emotional sense 🙂

For example, my small daughter’s dance teacher is a young woman, and she drives Juke, actually.
Another example – our recent neighbor recently moved to Europe, and now she drives Opel Mokka (which is pretty much the same thing as Buick Encore, and also very similar to Chevy Trax).

      1. Just to add, the vehicles of this kind have they own advantages in the city – they are very convenient to park because of their small footprint, and one is not afraid of curbs at all because of high ride height. So I don’t want to say that these subcompact CUVs appeal only to women.

  3. I currently own a 2015 Premium trim Encore… I can’t say that the exterior pictures thrill me enough to run out and upgrade. I’ll be anxious to see better pictures of the vehicle and interior, and read a 2017 order guide with what options and new things are with the vehicle. Then… I’ll make a better judgement of upgrading to this vehicle or not!

  4. It looks like the headlights are different too . The blue-ring around the headlight that you have seen on many Buicks is gone . The new grill design looks good on the face of it .
What a strange website that was , hope I don’t get alot of spam now in Chinese .
