2016 Cadillac CT6 Twin Turbo V6 Acceleration Tested: Video

As the very first tests and test drives of the 2016 Cadillac CT6 begin rolling in, one video shows the full-size luxury sedan with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo LGW V6 delivering a 0 to 60 time of less than 6 seconds. In this video, you’ll see a sequence of acceleration testing for such a vehicle, which is also equipped with GM’s new 8-speed 8L90 automatic transmission.

The acceleration times are as follows:

  • Tour Mode / traction control on: 5.7 seconds
  • Sport Mode / traction control on: 5.9 seconds
  • Sport Mode / traction control off: 5.8 seconds

So, it would appear that the CT6 is just a tenth of a second quicker in sprint to 60 mph while in Tour mode and with traction control on, rather than in sport mode with traction control on or off. We do have to wonder, however, how consistent these findings would have been had there been several repetitions of the test, rather than just the one.

Nevertheless, the figures are nothing to sneeze at given that the full-size prestige-luxury sedan weighs over 2 tons and features an impeccable amount of luxury. In fact, there are those who say that the CT6 delivers the perfect balance of luxury and performance.

  1. Wow..completely underwhelming. I expected more.

Compare it with the CTS V-Sport which has 20HP and 30lb.ft. more but is 2WD and that gets 0-60MPH in about 4.6 seconds.
The CT6 should be in that range. Yes it has less horsepower and torque but it lays the power down better due it standard AWD system.
Maybe the calibrations of the transmission or traction control system are not calibrated properly but that shouldn’t result in a 1 second difference.

Listen, I get that this is a large luxury sedan that is not going to go canyon carving or do very many track days but still it would be nice to have the full performance the powertrain is capable of.

    1. Really everyone?. I would buy this for the luxury and ride. Most lux car buyers I know don’t care how fast it gets to 60 or how fast you go around conners. If you want a sports car go buy a sports car. Oh yeah, caddy makes several v series cars that fill the need for speed. I can’t wait to drive this car at normal highway speeds in total luxury.

      1. Most luxury buyers do care about how fast their car accelerates. Its shameful when your 80k+ car gets beat at the red light by a 30k honda accord v6. And yes red light races do happen, that’s why the BMW 750i and Mercedes S550 both hit 60mph in about 4.5 seconds. Also this doesn’t inspire confidence about passing with ease… The CT6 desperately needs that V8 engine.

  2. What would be interesting to see is acceleration tests done with Cadillac’s base CT6 that’s equipped with the LTG 265 horsepower 2.0L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo given that the base CT6 is about 400 lbs lighter and the C6 Camaro with the LTG 2.0L 4-cyl turbo was capable of accelerating to sixty in 5.9 seconds.

  3. Yea, this is pretty slow; especially when the heavier competition with less powerful turbo V6’s can achieve the same, or better, 0-60 sprints. I read Car & Driver’s review of this turbo six CT6 and they believe the the Sprint to 60 could be faster, granted the transmission’s calibration was better synchronized! And unsurprisingly, Cadillac admits that the 8L90 in this application is still undergoing some fine tuning. Hopefully this is remedied with the introduction of the 2017 model!

    1. Yeah, I read that same article but how does a transmission calibration or two gain about a second in acceleration? I hope it does get significantly better.
My issue is that with the power to weight ratio this vehicle should be faster.

  4. Yawn. . .

My 2004 CTS-V could better this by a full second twelve years ago –for tens of thousands of dollars less.

    1. Sure, but was not nearly as refined inside and out as the CT6 is.

  5. ct-fail… Not only it looks dated and boring, but as we see it is aslo slow as turtle.
new e-class with only 330 hp does 0-62 in 4.9

  7. Should have used the LF4 engine from the ATS-V for this tank. Sometimes LESS is not MORE, even with twin turbo’s, a 3.0 V6 may just be too small a displacement unless you pump up the boost quite a bit.

    1. Seeing that this car will garner as many or more sales in China the smaller engine fits in better with the taxes over there.

Note we do have a TT V8 coming soon that will hold a lot more power.

This is just the standard V6 model.

      1. While your fist sentence may be true, I’m more concerned for here in the US, it’s primary market. As for China, let them get completely underwhelmed with the base engine being the 2.0T. I agree, this model NEEDS the TTV8, now, not later. The V6TT is the top offering at this time with the NA V6 being mid level if you can call it that as the V6TT should be the base with a TT V8 option. A 265 hp 2.0T base engine in a vehicle of the CT6’s stature is just absurd and begging for mockery, IMHO.

        1. Absurd and begging for mockery is a little much. The 2.0T will take a little getting use to but it is a good option.

  8. Less than impressive. Standard CTS 2.0 RWD is in same territory and most of the upscale competitors just blow it away.

V8 Turbo can’t come quickly enough and it better be generating more than the 400-450 hp originally listed as a target.

A premium automobile must also offer premium performance.

    1. Agreed that even if the customer never uses they extra capability it should be there.

  9. The comments made seem to point toward speed as the most important factor for the CT6. It is a luxury car that will be bought for comfort and ride mostly. Speed is over rated as far as I am concerned.

    1. Sport. This is how gm positions this model. They have been talking about the weight all the time…This is the lightest car in its segment blahblah.

      333hp 4.9 0-62!!!
And what we got as a result: not sport; not luxury. Ct-fail Plus it looks dated and boring
Btw, its interior is outclassed by the e. sad, but true… U cant even compare attention to details

    2. I Agee with you .I think it is a great looking car and I don’t feel that even 6 seconds to 60 is slow. But all you people that think MB is so great go buy one .

    3. Exactly, why the obsession with speed times to 60 MPH? I tested the car and got to 60 pretty quickly in the 3.6. Awesome lux car.

  10. For the base standard V6 this is not bad. Not being a performance model anything in the 5 second range is more than acceptable.

Now if this had a V series or V sport tag on it then you would have reason to complain but this is a base V6 model so no need to bitch.

With a coming TTV8 and I would guess a V6 option engine at some point we will see even more power.

The key is this is not a sports sedan and never claimed to be one. It is fully acceptable for what it is as it is not competing with the AMG or M cars.

    1. The original bitch was that for 400hp/400lb.ft a 5.7 seconds to 60MPH seemed a little slow.
We all get that more is coming for this vehicle but the point still remains.

Also this is not the ‘standard’ V6. That honor goes to the 3.6NA. This is actually the top spec V6.

      Reply
    2. Dude, this is the 3.0 twin turbo six we’re talking here, not the base NA 3.6L! However, to your point, should the 3.6 actually reach 60 in the same time as the 3.0 turbo, then this truly doesn’t bold well for the CT6! How are they gonna justify the premium cost of the 3.0?! What would be the purpose?!!

  11. ct-fail…the 3.0 v6 CT6 weighs 4300 LBS.

  12. OMG!!! So many adult men sounding like a bunch of old hens. Nobody with a brain expected the CT6 to do 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds. This is the first ever CT6, There’s time to improve on the performance. You sound like Trump…it’s ugly, well mine does it better, bla, bla, bla.

It’s a beautiful car and it’s only going to improve even more. Don’t get your tiddy whities in a bunch ladies. You know what’s ugly…most Mercedes, Bentley’s are not the most attractive either. Cadillac had been building a different type of luxury car for over 100 years. Now it looks like they’re headed in a good direction.
