General Motors Recalls 2014-2016 Chevrolet Caprice Police Vehicles Over Power Steering Assist Issue

General Motors is recalling certain units of the Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) over an issue that could cause the loss of electric power steering assist.

The defect: corrosion of the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a lose of electric power steering assist.

The hazards: a greater steering effort would be needed to control the vehicle if power steering is lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected vehicles: 2014-2016 Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit vehicles manufactured May 15, 2013 to March 3, 2016.

Number of vehicles affected: 6,280 units (United States figure).

The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear assembly, free of charge.

Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this GM recall should visit recalls.gm.com. There, owners will be able to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs. If the vehicle is part of the recall, customers should take it to a Chevrolet dealer.
