The Dual-Note Horn Of The 2017 GMC Acadia And Cadillac XT5: Feature Spotlight

Those who have perused the order guides of the 2017 GMC Acadia and 2017 Cadillac XT5 may have noticed a line called “horn, dual note” with reference RPO code U05. The feature piqued our attention, so we asked GM what the feature is all about.

As it turns out, the dual-note or dual-tone horn is essentially two tones sounding at the same time, making the horn itself louder.

GMC tells us that the each one of its vehicles is equipped with the dual-note horn, but examining GM’s order guides only shows it being on the first- and second-gen GMC Acadia, 2017 Cadillac XT5, as well as the Chevrolet Traverse. Interestingly, it’s not present in the order guide for the Buick Enclave, which shares the Lambda platform and much of everything else with the first-gen Acadia and Chevy Traverse.

  1. I’d love to see Cadillac bring back the super loud 3 note horns of years ago!

    2. Yeah. That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I read this was the “Trumpet Horns” from years ago. They need to do these kinds of things again on higher end products at GM.

  3. What’s the big deal?
Most GM cars in the ’60s and ’70s had dual note horns standard.

    1. No big deal at all… unless you consider that most GM cars do not have them any more. Then it’s worth mentioning, which is what’s happening in this article.

      1. You might want to refer to sources OTHER than an order guide for this. I.E. check for yourself in person. You’d be surprised how wrong you are.

  4. Didn’t notice until now just how much Arcadia resembles Terrain.
With older models still selling well, out seems as if GMC will be home to evolutionary design this cycle. Probably smart considering Jeep is focused on Matchbox-toy cute design these days.
