Opel Brings Limited Edition Adam S To South Africa

Opel has introduced a limited edition Adam S to the South African market with only 50 copies of the vehicle being exported. This special Adam S will feature a 1.4L turbocharged Ecotec engine, along with an improved chassis, steering, and brake system. The car is aimed at younger new-car buyers wanting a performance oriented commuter.

“The Opel Adam S has been designed and engineered for people who want to enjoy a sporty driving experience in a car with a unique and individual look. To achieve this Opel engineers came up with a powertrain that would give its best across a broad rev range. With the strong inherent torque characteristics – maximum torque in on tap from 3,000 rpm – and the use of a six-speed gearbox, the driver will always enjoy instant response,” said Brian Olson, Vice President Vehicle Sales and Marketing at GM South Africa.

The spirited performance of the 1.4L four-banger is the product of dual cam phasing, a turbocharger integrated within the exhaust manifold to save weight, as well as a hollow frame structure and plastic intake manifold. On paper the Adam S produces 110kW/220Nm (147 hp/162 lb-ft) which translates to a 8.5 second zero to sixty (0-100km/h). More impressive is the mileage rating of just 5.9 litres/100 km (about 40 MPG).

To back up the under-the-hood power, the chassis features a stiffer front anti-roll bar and stiffer springs. The upgraded brakes share the same specs as the previous-gen Corsa OPC. The torsion beam rear axle is also stiffened up. The 308mm rotors are covered by stylish 18-inch wheels that are wrapped in 225/35/18 performance tires.

Aside from the performance goodies, there are also cosmetic enhancements both inside and out. The Red Your Engine decor pack is standard, and features the red accenting you see on the exterior as well as red leather detailing for the shift-knob, lower arc of the steering wheel, and the handbrake. There’s also Recaro sport seats, which offer much more stability than traditional seats.
