AT&T and Vodafone will be the network that will support the OnStar 4G LTE service available for new Opel and Vauxhall vehicles in Europe, including the all-new Astra.
“We are honored to have the chance to work with GM beyond the U.S. and Canada,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Internet of Things, AT&T Mobility. “Joining OnStar core functionality with our virtual packet core network and Wi-Fi from Vodafone serves as a platform for future innovation in safety, security, diagnostics and entertainment across Europe.”
If you somehow hadn’t heard, this 4G LTE service turns a vehicle into rideable Wi-Fi hotspot. In Europe, the award-winning service is enabled by Vodafone, and it is currently available in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
“Internet in the car is the must-have service for the connected car consumer. I am pleased that, thanks to this agreement, OnStar customers get to experience Vodafone’s 4G LTE network across Europe,” said Erik Brenneis, Vodafone director of Machine to Machine (M2M).
