General Motors Mexico delivered 18,963 new vehicles in January 2016 for a market share of 15.5 percent. The results represent a 2 percent increase in sales volume and a 2 percent drop in market share, both on a year-over-year basis.
According to Francisco Garza, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing for General Motors Mexico, the drop in market share is the result of accelerated industry growth and the entry of new rivals, coupled with a shortage of popular GM models. Garza vowed to tackle the weakness by addressing penetration of certain segments, strengthening the performance of recent launches, and ensuring an adequate supply of products. Garza added that the automaker is confident that the strength of GM’s four brands and various strategies will enable GM to return to the market share levels of the most recent past.
