When Cadillac initially launched the 2016 CTS family, it did not offer the Midnight Edition — a circumstance that brought a significant amount of disappointment to CTS owners and Cadillac enthusiasts who were fans of the black-out package. However, a recent update to the 2016 CTS order guide suggests that the package is back.
Carrying free-flow RPO code CWD, the CTS Midnight Package is available on vehicles equipped with the 2.0T LTG and 3.6L V6 LGX engines and delivers the following equipment:
- (PZX) 18″ After Midnight premium painted wheels
- (TSA) Black chrome grille
By comparison, the 2015 CTS Midnight Edition also offered black daylight opening (DLO) window moldings and sueded microfiber steering wheel and a sueded microfiber shifter.
The 2016 CTS Midnight is averrable with the following models, trim levels, exterior colors, and interior trim combinations:

The GM Authority Take
We’re happy to see the Midnight Edition return to the CTS as it did to the ATS Sedan and Coupe (more on the ATS Midnight Edition), since the CTS’ rivals from BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus all offer black-out appearance packages, which have been gaining in popularity in the sport-luxury space, especially among younger buyers.
And though we won’t miss the sueded steering wheel or shifter, which can be ordered individually as well as purchased as an accessory and installed after the purchase, we do wish the package still offered the blacked-out daylight openings (DLO) as it did on the 2015 model. The blacked-out DLOs truly completed the look of the vehicle and, unfortunately, are not available for purchase as an individual part.
In addition, we would also like to see the package available with all exterior colors, rather than the select three offered today. To note, there are no color restrictions on the black-out packages offered on the BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS, and Audi A6/S6.

The inhabitants of the isle of Manoo have been working triple-overtime to fulfill the orders for Manoogian wheels. The CWD RPO code stands for “Can’t Withold Darkness”. CTS owners can rest easy now that their pleas have been heard. . . Watch next month’s sales reflect their fervent desire. . .
It would have to wait until the month after, or the one after that. Because even though it’s in the order guide, the these vehicles haven’t begun production just yet.
Those Manoogians are a cool bunch. I hear the the reason the Midnight was dropped early on for the 2016 MY is because they went on strike. Word on the street is that each one they wanted a CTS for themselves.
Awesome, let us hope the dealers get behind selling them!
2015 Cadillac CTS Midnight Edition did not come with Black Window Moldings. I wish it did because I own a 2015 Performance with the Midnight Edition and I think that would have been a nice touch. It also Does not mention the Black Chrome accent below the headlights. Also was only avaiable with Performance PKG.
CWK – Midnight Special Edition Package, includes (TSA) Black chrome grille, (PZX) 18″ dark finish aluminum wheels, (5CS) sueded microfiber shifter and (53S) sueded microfiber steering wheel.
Brendin, thanks for bringing this up.
Did some legwork and it appears that the Midnight Edition got a few changes after being launched. Initially, the package did offer the black DLOs, but then switched to offering the standard silver/chrome units at some point during its lifecycle. That’s too bad. I wish it did as well.
