When filming the Buick Cascada convertible Super Bowl commercial, the crew faced dreary weather that put a damper on making progress. The cold and rain didn’t exactly fit the image the director was going for. Luckily a sexy new Buick was on-site to keep the spirits high.
Odell Beckham Jr. hadn’t spent much time in-front of the camera without his football gear on, so he was excited about the shoot. As was actress/model Emily Ratajkowski, who’s more than familiar with the cameras and concept of Super Bowl commercials, but wasn’t too familiar with the sport of football itself. Fortunately for her, a stunt double was on-hand to perform the OBJ-styled, one-handed catch of the bouquet. Thanks to modern filming tech, Emily’s face was seamlessly put on the stunt-double’s body, making it seem as if she was the one who “Odell-ed it.”
The director boils the commercial down to four elements; the catch, the presence of Odell Beckham Jr., the presence of Emily Ratajkowski, and the presence of the all-new Buick Cascada convertible. All these instruments were used to create an important message in the commercial: the new Buick isn’t the same Buick that you used to know, it’s better.

No long-format online version to create social media buzz ahead of the broadcast? No online connection to find out more?
Even the director listed the new Buick last in his GM-approved quote – the catch, Emily, OBJ and – then – the car.
No PR blitz until after the fact?
I’d guess didn’t GM get their $5m worth (plus production and payments to the lovely Emily and the skilled but thugish OBJ), playing it like it’s 1996, not 2016.
Commercial was ok. Maximizing the opportunity? Kind of a Cam Newton effort.
Speaking of super bowl car commercials did anyone here see the Audi r8 commercial say I bet a real former astronaut would want a c3 corvette to cheer him up rather than an Audi. I couldn’t help myself from saying that and my friends laughed.
