So, you’ve read all about the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, have you? Excellent, because here’s the bigger news: the 1LE package will also be offered with the 3.6-liter LGX V6 engine.
Chevrolet states, in response to customer demand, the 2017 Camaro 1LE will not only be powered by a V8, but the 1LE package may also be applied to the V6-powered 1LT or 2LT variant of Camaro. Both the LT 1LE and SS 1LE receive similar styling enhancements, including a satin black hood, front splitter and a unique three-piece spoiler to look the part, but what does a 2017 Camaro LT 1LE do to beef up its track credentials? Quite a bit.
First of all, more aggressive suspension tuning is applied to handle greater efforts on the track. The 2017 Camaro LT 1LE receives standard Brembo brakes, and a unique wheel design is wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The combination is good for 0.97G in cornering grip. The 2017 Camaro LT 1LE also receives the innovative Performance Data Recording system as an option. Other technical specs include the following:
- FE3 suspension components (from the Camaro SS), including dampers, rear cradle mounts, ball-jointed rear toe links and stabilizer bars
- Lightweight 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 245/40R20 front tires and 275/35R20 rear tires
- Mechanical Limited-slip differential with 3.27 ratio
- Standard track-cooling package, with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers
- Suede steering wheel and shorter-throw shifter
- Standard dual mode exhaust system
- Camaro SS fuel system for higher-load cornering capability
- Unique high flow upper and lower grille with satin black accents
- Available Recaro seats.
Many of the 2017 Camaro LT 1LE’s performance additions come from the 2016 Camaro SS, making the package a literal one-stop shop for extra go-fast bits in one tidy package. And it won’t be a slouch, either.
“With a curb weight under 3,500 pounds, excellent front-to-rear weight balance and the precision of the FE3 suspension, the Camaro LT 1LE offers unmatched capability in its class,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “As a result, it offers incredible performance for Camaro V6 customers.”
Availability for the 1LE package will begin in late 2016 as the Camaro begins its 2017 model year.

I was one of the people asking for this… yet I’m disappointed. No MangaRide for V6. I was hoping that 1LE would be the “narrow path” that GM would open up to get a V6 with magnetic ride suspension.
I admit I haven’t battle tested the ride comfort controls on the non-magnetic ride choices, but this was something I was really hoping would have made it in. It would have justified the upcharge, and made for a much more comfortable ride when battling California potholes.
It’s so bad on the FE3 in my Sky Red Line, I’ve seriously contemplated putting FE2 components in to soften the pothole impact. Note I said contemplated… contemplated.
Plus no 1LE automatic… Seriously? You won’t take $3,500 of my money just because I want your radical, awesome 8-speed automatic transmission? That I do not get, at all.
I would give this a go first before you complain. Not all FE suspensions are the same.
My FE5 on my SS is great on all roads. My only beef is the bushings get noisy in the harsh cold. But the ride is fine.
Also price I am sure is a factor here. They want this package to under cut the ZL and Z28. Also weight is another factor too as this is the car most likely will see club racing etc.
I would wait for the road test and we may find it not missing at all based on the real world test.
Also with the marketing Chevy has used they do not make some options available right off and add them a year later to drive continued sales. Lets face it they are going to sell them all this year no matter what so they are leaving some gas in the tank.
I also suspect the Z28 to be the top dog but not as expensive this time. Adding the better shocks and struts here would be part of the package with a few other surprises.
California Pot Holes? You call those Pot Holes. Come to Ohio and I will show you a Pot hole. LOL!
Boner Time!!!
I’m actively on the market for a 2016 2SS, this very minute. Does anyone know if that rear spoiler going to be offered standalone as a GM Performance part? I love the sixth gen camaro, but can’t stand the stock spoiler on the SS, and would love to buy one with that rear lip-spoiler.
Sam, we will ask for you. In the meantime, would you mind starting a thread about this in the GM Authority Forum so we can keep the discussion focused?
Ok! We finally have the V6 being taken seriously as a performance drivetrain. Why shouldn’t it?? porsche has been doing more with less for so long. Give the V6 the/a lfx head for optional TT and you have a winner in the NA trim or TT boosted mode. I’ve long considered a TT V6 LLT for my 1990 Vette swap but soon realized there’s no parts and limited support. As a result, even an LS 4.8-5.3 TT is far more viable. Only problem is this L98, when cared for, will not die! Only ALL the accessories, lol…
And what’s any Vette without a V8?
I agree, it’s 2016, the V6 needs to be taken seriously. They can get some good HP and they still sound much better than a suped up 4-cylinder.
WHAAAA?!? A V6 sounds better than a well modded Four? That’s news to me. You sure you don’t mean a INLINE six sounds better than a four?
No matter, to each his own.
I guess I see the V6 1LE as a necessity. Why? Price. The 2016 1SS starts at $37295, add the 1LE and check a few more boxes and your looking at $43-44K! The 2010 Camaro 1SS had a base price of……$30,995, now 6 years later the price has jumped over 20%?? Improvements have been made for sure and the V6 versions offer good performance, but it’s still a Camaro.
Agreed. In fact, the more I think about it; price is probably the only reason we are getting a V6 1LE. The V8 variants have gotten pretty big for their britches – price wise.
