Surprise Buick Concept Rumored To Be A Coupe

We previously reached out to Buick to ask for a little more information on the brand’s surprise debut it is bringing to an offsite event at the 2016 North American International Auto Show. Unfortunately, mum was the word.

But, Bloomberg reports the upcoming surprise will have two-doors, not four. The report states, after an anonymous tip, the concept vehicle will be “about the size of a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.”

Now, just because it has been described as the size of a Chevrolet Camaro doesn’t mean this is actually a sports car, but these rumored specifications certainly lend themselves to one. For all we know, this could merely be a two-door design study to preview the upcoming 2017 Buick Regal. This would follow a similar pattern with the Buick Avenir concept, which previewed the 2017 Buick LaCrosse.

Still, we eagerly await the next move from the tri-shield. Momentum is on Buick’s side, and it seems more eager than ever to shed its image of yore.

  2. With the Pontiac Firebird gone, a tuned down ATS-V Coupe based Grand National would break the Internet. If the three triplets; ATS Coupe, Camaro, and “Grand National” are differentiated enough they may all be able to fill separate niches

  3. When they coupe.. do they really mean a 2-door coupe or will this the BMW approach with their 6-series Gran Coupe which is essentially a sporty 4-door sedan because with the Cascada convertible 2-door coupe, it may be difficult for Buick to sell the idea of building a second 2-door coupe to GM’s board of directors as this is why there’s no Cadillac CTS coupe.

Where did you find out that the GM exec board is responsible for there being only one luxury coupe in Cadillac’s lineup? If that’s the case, I’m glad De Nysschen took the Cadillac people out of there. Must have been the same execs who almost made the ATS be built on the Delta II platform.

  4. Some people are still funny. do you think that GM would build only one, and it is a Cadillac Coupe. and one sedan and Buick. and this is one SUV and Chevrolet. People grow up no indeed.
one of the sports car, and it is a corvette.
Are you blind or stupid, or. if you can not see what is done elsewhere in the world auto industries.
LIKE VAG concern so many different cars different VAG brands- so many sport cars- big lux sedaans- little sport hatches and so…..
some stuped think GM must build one brand and some cars and thats it. cadillac built one car- chevrolet one car and so……
the total of American and world markets should be filled with different products gm. a few fights, and fight only within GM and GM products.
can understand that GM will have to fight with the other producers not to their own products.
blind and stuped people and destroys itself gm. someone dont know what is coupe …………………….

  5. a lot of people in the world live. divisible by both the buyers and the cadillac buick and chevrolet. divisible for all buyers of GM products.
who do not want a Cadillac. buy buick. or were adopted. or Chevrolet.
    or any other product gm.
GM itself offers a lot of products will have the chance to win customers from other producers.
people with more sense and is not blind. will understand that the world is going on.
GM often read about it as if it were a newborn child. Yes gm born again.

    1. Since December, Opel has said that they have a surprise planned for Geneva–a couple that “you wouldn’t expect from Opel”.
According to Auto Evolution, it is a GT and will look like a cross between the original and Monza.
The original looks like the basis of Mazda’s Kodo design and I’m willing to bet that a post modern sweep spear can be etched in.
Both Opel and Buick need a car like this to increase sex appeal and continue the march upmarket. Niche cars are generally wasteful except when trying to repair damaged and forgotten brands.
      Kudos!

  7. I too was thinking Opel GT or Monza GT. They showed a shooting brake version of the Monza. Could Buick be teasing with a coupe.

Do not expect a return of the GN. That is just not in the cards.

I am thinking Audi A5 like coupe or A4 coupe with AWD.

    1. They are saying DX22 (Astra) underpinnings in Auto Evolution.
I’m prone to believe only because Cascada used Delta and many markets need autos with a smaller footprint.
I was at first convinced it was Alpha but not enough markets/factories have the tooling.
Because this car will be RHD, expect this offering to surpass Camaro as GM’s global sport coupe. More and more we are seeing Opel-Buick products taking the place of Chevrolet designed cars whether it be at Holden or in Latin America.
GM has finally mastered it’s Rubic’s Cube.

      1. You are thinking smart here. You are thinking globally.

the RHD is a major key here. That would not happen with the Alpha at this time.

Keep in mind too this may or may not lead to a production car too.

        1. Neumann spoke as if the GT this was more reality than concept. I’m not very excited. Opel already sells too many niche low-volume products and this is not leading to profits even as rivals FIAT and PSA are back in the black.
GT long term could serve as a halo product and replace the already dated Cascada. Even though GM has put together a Cascada super bowl advert, at best the convertible has another four years left in it’s production cycle defiantly leaving a space for another sport-oriented offering.
It better be good and not another waste of resources.

  11. Buick has only built two outstanding cars in the last 50 years, the boat tail Riv’s of the late 60’s and the Grand Nationals of the the late 80’s. With dozens of mediocre models produced over that time span the best way to predict the future is to look at the past. Bland styling and lack luster performance is what you will see. The Chinese will love them.

  13. Because this is only a concept , I would really like to see a high end luxury coupe , and not a small car either .
A Buick Avenir with only 2 doors . Using one of the new names they filed a patent for .
It would be a small niche market but Buick has room in their line-up for such a car . I agree with you Kim F .
But if it is rumored to be the size of a Camaro , this scenario won’t work .
