During last week’s NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) in Detroit, President Barack Obama was seen checking out the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV and looking quite fond of it.
Of course, it all has to do with bringing the controversial decision to rescue GM and Chrysler from the brink into the limelight, and the President taking a victory lap of sorts to check out what General Motors Co. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV are producing these days. And it’s true that GM and FCA produce a lot of high-selling, highly profitable and high-demand trucks, SUVs and performance cars. But, perhaps conveniently, there happened to be an electric Chevy on the pedestal this year, along with a hybrid Chrysler minivan not far away.
Politics aside, Chevrolet has been busy covering all bases. From extended-range plug ins like the new Chevrolet Volt, to the 48 MPG Malibu Hybrid, to vehicles as small as the Spark, to the fully electric Bolt EV. So, if big V8 body on frame vehicles aren’t your thing, you’re likely to find something in a Chevy showroom that fits a little better.

This is proof that the bailout paid off and was a great idea.
Ignore all the politics. The Bolt is something that is going to help the General out in years to come. To be out there first with an EV that gets 200 mile range that is around $30k gives GM an edge.
