The EcoCar 3 competition is well under way, and universities across North America are beginning to take delivery of a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. Universities’ mission? To craft a potent and powerful 2016 Camaro with greater fuel efficiency and less tailpipe emissions.
Mississippi State University is the latest to receive its 2016 Camaro, equipped with the 3.6-liter LGX V6, and students are ready to get to work and engineer a frugal, yet powerful, solution for the powertrain.
“Our architecture is very aggressive, so we hope to blow everybody away,” said graduate student Stephen Hayes when speaking to local news affiliate WTVA.
MSU’s goal will be to retain the current performance of the car, while bumping MPG ratings up to 60 mpg. MSU also took home the win in 2012 during the EcoCar 2 competition.
But, MSU has one potent rival at its heels. The Ohio State University has already won year one of the competition, and OSU has big plans, much like MSU does, for its Camaro.

I would replace the standard hydraulic transmission with the new elecitric drive unit from the 2016 Cadillac CT6 Hybrid, and add a battery behind the rear seat in the trunk. So at slow trffic, the battery can power the drive unit and at higher speeds the V6 will power the same drive unit, and rechange the battery. It will be a faster hybrid than the Volt.
