Chevrolet utterly bombarded the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas with more Camaros and Silverados we could ever imagine. One highlight, however, was the 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro, a legend among Camaro faithful.
If you’re buzzing to own an example yourself, Chevrolet has announced it will be auctioning off serial number one of the 2016 COPO Camaro at the 2016 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. All proceeds from the vehicle will head directly to The United Way.
“This is a special opportunity to purchase the first of the sixth generation, 2016 COPO Camaro while also helping such a great cause,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
The 2016 COPO Camaro may look ready for show, but it’s seriously about the go. The purpose-built Camaro is ready to do battle in the NHRA Stock Eliminator class, with a 350 cubic-inch V8 paired to a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharged hiding under its high-rise, carbon-fiber hood. Power is sent through a THM-350 automatic transmission, and the sixth-generation COPO Camaro retains all the benefits of the more road-going Camaro, i.e., weight loss.
Doubling back on the “show” part of the 2016 COPO Camaro for a moment, NHRA Funny Car driver, Courtney Force, made sure the vehicle looked the part with her signature graphics over a Red Hot exterior red color.
“I was extremely honored to work with Chevrolet and help design the 2016 COPO Camaro,” said Courtney Force. “The bright red color and the signature slash marks towards the back on the car bring a part of my Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car to the COPO Camaro, which I think is really cool. The proceeds from this car go to a great cause and benefit the United Way, so it’s an awesome project all around.”
The 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro will cross the block on January 29, 2016 at approximately 7 p.m. Have your checkbooks ready, ladies and gents.
