Today marked the end of the annual Roar Before The 24 practice session ahead of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. All classes in this year’s IMSA WeatherTech Championship participated in the test, including the GTLM field Corvette Racing competes in.
Corvette Racing and the No. 3 C7.R topped the leaderboards Sunday with a time of 1:45.227 – posted by Antonio Garcia. The session was one of three the team led all weekend, however they were unable to post the fastest time of the weekend. That crown went to BMW Team RLL and their new BMW M6 GTLM after Lucas Luhr posted a time of 1:45.088 on Saturday.
The No. 4 C7.R’s best time Sunday was a 1:45.579 posted by Marcel Fassler. That rendered it third-fastest in GTLM behind the No. 67 Ford GT EcoBoost, which posted a time of 1:45.452 in the hands of former Corvette Racing driver Richard Westbrook. The No. 4 car suffered a minor setback on Friday after it caught fire in the pits with Tommy Milner behind the wheel.
The next time Corvette Racing and their two new C7.Rs will take to the track will be later this month when the Rolex 24 at Daytona kicks off. We’re expecting a fairly heated battle as Corvette Racing attempts to fend off fierce competition from Ford, Ferrari, Porsche and others on its way to its second consecutive Daytona 24 win.
