After the success of the reborn Ford Focus hatchback, it only made sense for Chevrolet to take a hard look at whether to introduce a hatchback variant of Cruze for the latest generation.
And it will do such a thing next week at the 2016 North American International Auto Show.
We previously caught wind of a new vehicle debut by Chevrolet at the 2016 NAIAS, and even had a slight clue it would be the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze hatch, but Automotive News has confirmed all speculation in their Detroit Auto Show preview.
The Cruze hatchback will ride on the same D2XX platform its sedan sibling shares, but don’t expect 2016 Opel Astra influences here. We’re told the sheetmetal will be unique to Chevrolet, with no floating roof design cue.
The Chevrolet Cruze hatch was confirmed earlier last year following the vehicle’s showing at a nationwide dealer meeting.
Stay tuned next week as we bring you the latest straight from Detroit.

“Get ready for the hatch life.”
HHR SS – 290 hp*

Hatch life from last decade seems just fine from this side of the grass.
Provided that Cruze hatch is a beautiful design, I see no reason for Astra to be sold as a Buick.
The new Chinese Verano looks no more premium than Cruze–this is why China got a unique, dumbed down Cruze design.
A unique Buick hatch seems silly considering this is already a weak segment that GM will be unable to expand with a quasi premium product.
So that would probably mean the new Equinox should show up on Chicago
GM playing follow the leader again. Shoulda had hatch from the beginning. Especially after HHR went away. Glad they are building this one!
Mark Ruess agreed that not having a first gen Cruze hatch was a mistake.
Now they definitely need Cruze SS
The Cruze SS would be nice, but it looks like this is no where in sight.
