Community Question: Does The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatch Pack Enough Cargo Space?

It’s apparent Chevrolet is targeting the lifestyle crowd with the 2017 Cruze hatchback. Taking a look at the official webpage for the hatch reveals a stylish configurator showing the possibilities of junk to pack into the Cruze’s trunk. Or should we say hatch …
The 2017 Cruze hatchback offers up 47.2 cubic-feet of cargo space with the rear seats down, which seems to be quite a bit of space for whatever life brings. But, is that enough?
The Cruze hatch does best the Ford Focus hatchback, which tallies in at 44.8 cubic-feet. Though, the 2017 Cruze hatch’s figure comes up short of the Volkswagen Golf’s spacey 52.7 cubic-feet.
We know there are plenty of other things to consider when looking at a new vehicle, but one primary aspect, and selling point, of a hatchback is the additional cargo space without stepping into a crossover.
Now, we want to hear from you. Are you impressed with the cargo space found in the Chevy Cruze hatch? Or, is there more to be desired. Let us know in our poll below, and discuss below in the comment section.
47 sq ft is a respectable number – same as my old Saab 9-3 hatch. You could haul a lot of stuff in that Saab. I do wonder what the cargo capacity of the Cruze wagon is (I know – not for sale in the US – but they do sell it in other countries).
Has anyone at Chevrolet compared the Cuze hatch space to the Chevy Volt?
Just remember before you ask GM to build a Cruze SS AWD to fight the Focus RS, you can already have an ATS AWD turbo with Brembos for the same price as the Ford, only a slightly smaller trunk opening is at stake
People who will be buying the Cruze Hatchback want just a bit of extra room and not planning to move cargo; the fact it has more capacity than the Ford Focus should suggest that Chevy engineers were on target.
It has more useful space than the sedan, height is the advantage over the sedan for both access and storage,
Need more buy bigger.
Enough depends on what you expect to hall.
With the seats down it will take a larger taller box and the sedan. With the seats up it may not have as much usable space.
As to if it is enough that all depends on your needs.
To make this competitive vs. a CUV you really need to look to give this car tools that the CUV can not have. A sporty suspension and more sports car like amenities. Play this car to it’s strengths.
I believe it will have plenty of space. My only concern or question would be with the seats down. Do they lie completely flat? I have dogs and when I had my Equinox the seats would not lie completely flat. A good usable rear cargo should have a completely flat floor behind the front seats.
