The buzz of the 2016 North American International Auto Show may be coming to a close, but the public is finally getting its hands on the vehicle debuts shown in Detroit. Following the public show, The Detroit News, along with 100 readers, were tasked with selecting the best future concept in attendance at the show.
And that was the Buick Avista concept.
The Avista was bestowed the reader’s choice “Best Future Concept” after previously being awarded the 2016 EyesOn Design Award days earlier.
“This award is special because this is the Motor City and it was decided by people who reside here – alongside many of the men and women who poured their hearts and souls into this concept,” said Bryan Nesbitt, executive director of global Buick design. “Because Avista represents the future essence of Buick design, an award decided by consumers is a great vote of confidence.”
The outpouring of positive reactions towards the Buick Avista has, frankly, shocked the brand. Not only has the concept been a win with the public, but the design has two awards to parade around now, too.

Why is it ‘Best Future Concept’ rather than what comes next?? Build it Buick, build it ASAP. Buick needs it, GM needs it, we the people need it, errr, want it. Build it with a manual and automatic option as well as a powerful drivetrain. I have a neighbor in the market who is disillusioned with the Caddy price and not inspired with the Chevy Camaro. He’s coming from a mustang GT and wants more but not the ATS-V price. If you can’t give a median, he’s going to buy a Shelby GT350. Please no reply regarding this is not a GT, I know, but the Avista should be at least a 470hp TT V6 with a manual option and he has CASH in hand. Build it already.
I want TWO of them! One for me, and one for my wife. I’ll buy them the moment they hit the dealers!
I still sit here totally dumbfounded by GM being shocked that the press and the public overwhelmingly love the Avista. Is the C-suite so out of touch with what the public wants to drive from GM? Has GM just given up the marketplace to German and Japanese automakers? Is the GM brand now one of great designs that can’t or won’t be built? What kind of strategy is that? Build the Avista! Be bold! Show the public that the bailout money was a smart investment and your competitors that your goal is to eat their lunch.
I enjoy my 15 Cadillac ATS4 coupe, but I’m hoping that my next Cadillac is as nice as the Avista interior and exterior. A convertible would also be nice to match my C7 convertible.
I would love to see more coups in the GM line up! I”m a single guy and don’t need the four doors, personally! It would also be nice to look left and not see the B pillar in my face without having to lean forward to see past. Just my view…
