And Now, The Preliminary Specs Of The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV

Having debuted the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV, Chevrolet has now released preliminary specifications of the subcompact EV. A few items of interest include:

  • Steel and aluminum construction
  • Battery system contains 288 cells with an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty for a 200-mile range
  • Electric drive unit makes 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque for a final drive ratio of 7.05:1
  • Using the SAE Combo DC Fast charger, can gain a 90-mile range in 30 minutes
  • 0-60 mph in under 7 seconds on to a top speed of 91 mph (145 kph)
  • Michelin Energy Saver A/S all-season tires
  • 3,580-pound (1,625 kg) curb weight

In addition, we find it interesting that Chevrolet is categorizing the Bolt EV as a crossover, specifically a “five-passenger, five-door all-electric CUV”.

  1. Cars shaped like this are difficult to grasp their actual size. With these specs I can compare to the Encore and learn Bolt is —

    1. — four inches shorter than Encore.
    2. — basically the same width of Encore
    3. — two and half inches shorter than Encore

    So, to me, that makes the Bolt a little bigger than it appears.

  2. Would be cool if through regen braking, you could use the energy generated for an ‘over boost’ feature. Like a pseudo Sport Mode but also very Eco minded
